No, no... not the GPS *IN* the N800, I meant the GPS navigation ON the N800 (in the Droid). You know.. you can try taping a Droid onto the N800 and suddenly you have free turn by turn. You could also just simply hold the Droid and the N800 in each hand. That works too, I suppose. :)

Hi,

I'm very happy to hear your kind words about the Maemo versions. Unfortunately there are no plans to release the code base for the Maemo version of Wayfinder (former Navicore).

Isn't that a kick in the pants? Oh well. Back to pointing out how dead-dead-dead it is on our N8x0's. :)

I got my N810 on eBay just over a month ago and once I got over the fact that a first fix takes a while, I've found the GPS to be great, including using maps from OpenStreet, Yahoo and Google. Why do I need Wayfinder?

its not that it is really great. its that i paid money for it. i paid $400 for N800 and $200 for Navicore. and i think the license was 'for life' when i bought it, nowere did it say that at one point wayfinder will be killed and your $200 investment will be not usable.

Even if the maps are ancient and never updated, agreed. I never saw anything about the software expiring and becoming crippled in the future.

Good God, man! Stop being such a tightwad and get yourself an Android already! ;)
Erm... I mean... I doubt that will help N8x0 owners. Ahem.

whatever. I see tho that my question was a bit redundant. Anyways, from the wiki it looks as if the issue mostly is to get nav2 to get a green light from the registration server. And from a quick peek inside .navicore/settings.txt, that can be any url potentially.

so perhaps we can basically create a server that gives the thumbs up no matter what? That is, if the handshakes and stuff can be figured from the available source.

Which, if you had read this thread, involved an encrypted signature matched to your specific MAC address. Good luck with that.

...doomed... doomed... doomed... DOOOOOMED... go-home-now.
