Mkdir /etc/apt/preferences
vi above using i to insert txt.
Then press Esc Esc
Then press the keys :wq to save

you must be root to write in that location. as far as i've seen note saves as html or txt, so i would use vi or nano as editor.
otherwise install rootsh, open a terminal and do
exactly as i wrote. be careful on what you write, errors as root are dangerous.

Ok, i typed the first line of ernia's instructions, but it said directory is nonexistant, so I created that folder (/etc/apt/preferences) , then typed the first command , then it said /etc/apt/preferences: is a directory

casper27 said to do mkdir (make directory), but i don't think that's right. you just want to create a file with 3 lines of text in it, according to ernia. so delete the directory you created and just type exactly what ernia said, starting with "echo..."

this command (echo text > filename) creates a file called "filename" and puts the text "text" into it. and this command (echo text2 >> filename) appends text to the end of a file that's already been created.

Ok , finally seemed to work, if i wanted to pin the version of emelfm2 i have, would i just repeat the the above process but with emelfm2 and the version i have?

just remember to use >> to append every row you need, if you use > you owerwrite your /etc/apt/preferences file. maybe you could learn to use vi or nano.

Awesome, got it workin... when i first added the emelfm2 entry to the file, it made map come back up on the update screen, then i opened emelfm2 and viewed the preferences file and it put the "package: emelfm2: line right below the pin-priority line of map, i clicked the edit icon in emelfm2 and just inserted a space between the two and it works perfectly! Thanks everyone! :)

What I meant by you cant crack .604 is you cant do it using the old simple "just change the mac address method"

You mean that the navicore-navigator has to be a previous version's editted navicore-navigator? If yes, which version? I hex-editted the version 604's navicore-navigator, use macchanger/rcS/libmacspoof.so.1.0.1 method to get a different mac address, and use a different DSL network to apply for the 7 days trial, it failed. Thanks for your help.

Completely lost. I'm running Diablo with the wayfinder app v2.2.8.604 and I have the libmacspoof file but does this method not work anymore for the .604 version? Who's directions do I follow because I though I knew what I was doing until I read the last few pages that said this method no longer works.

I would buy the unlimited navicore license but that's only valid for Europe and I need US maps. Also tried maemo mapper but it seems to need a internet connection to do anything : /

The best way is my method of using the .377 map software and simply using macchanger. I can see no advantages of upgrading to the .604 software you can update the maps and .377 works just fine.

Honestly, the .377 works just fine, ive never had a complaint with the routing or any of the functions really.

Well tried to see if they could switch the license for UK to US for the Navicore license off ebay but that didn't work- support.onboard@wayfinder.com said I need to buy another license <_<

What happens if my license expires- like if you only buy 1 month access? The app stops functioning or you just can't get new maps?

Downloading and using maps is always free. The app stays working forever too.

You will lose the ability to use (voice guided) navigation.

The libfaketime will work only for a short amount of time until the time is drifted too much off. About < week was my experience.

I've tried to make it work, with no luck. I have installed the 377 version, and used this method:
- create a file, like m.sh:

For the time I chose a time few days before the time that map said my trial period expired.

I tried to change the MAC address, tried different times, tried with/without libmacspoof, with/without libfaketimeMT.
I get two messages, either
"Please check your time settings before activation" or the one telling when did my trial period expired.
Any idea?

It is an N810 up-to-date, only map was downgraded with dpkg --remove map and dpkg --install map_2.2.6.377-1_armel.deb

The easiest most reliable way to get unlimited free trials is to just have the .377 version and use just macchanger every seven days or whenever you need it.

Method: (make sure you have macchanger installed and you are connected to the internet)

1. sudo gainroot

2. ifconfig wlan0 down hw ether 00:00:00:00:00:00 (00:00:00:00:00:00 = any or random mac address)

3. ifconfig wlan0 up

4. Disconnect your internet connection and reconnect

5. Open map program and request a free trial , and thats all there is...Ive done this method for over a year and always works and I as well have a completely up to date N810 but with .377 map software

It was trivial with earlier versions (if you know ARM code ;-))[1], but less so with the later ones. Since it is so cheap to buy a copy now (in some jurisdictions/if you can find them), why bother?

Actually, that reminds me, I've got a Nokia Bluetooth GPS unit to get rid of; anyone interested?

hmm thank you munky261 for you instructions.
I tried it with macchanger

1. disconnect wlanhotspot
2. macchanger --r wlan0
3. connect
4. get new trial

this changes my mac. After changing I could not connect to my wlan any more. So I deactivated the wlan encryption for some minutes. It worked and I could achieve a new trial. But after reseting my device the mac changes back to it´s original and the trial does not work any more, but wlan works again even with decryption. Hm. btw changing the date does not work for me :>

I always leave mine connected while im changing the mac, then after you disconnect then reconnect immediately. Security settings on some routers may prevent you from connecting with your changed mac. My gf has a linksys and the way she had the security set up i had to change the settings on the router before i could connect with a changed mac. As far as changing the date goes with this method that has nothing to do with it, if your router wont let you on once youve changed your mac just change the settings on it so it will let you. And regarding you resetting your device, everytime you reboot or reset it reverts it back to the original mac and you simply have to do the process again. Also, was wondering about the #2 in the step you listed, walk me through how you are doing this step by step with the exact commands you are typing in so i can make sure you got it right.

Okay all steps I do are :

1. root (busybox 1.6.1 build in shell ash...)
2. ifconfig wlan0 down
3. macchanger --r(andom) wlan0
4. ifconfig wlan0 up

If I don't do step 2 and 4 macchanger says :
"ERROR: Can't change MAC : interface up or not permission : Device or resource busy"
So to use the full trial I should not generate a random MAC but set every time I start the app the MAC with which I activated the 7 day trial right?

But I don't know why WPA does not allow reconnecting with another mac although the password is right while connecting ^^
It seems to recognize the MAC-ID fake right?

I found out I don't need step 2 and 4 if I disconnect before changing.
Btw I think you wonder about the macchanger. It is an app from the repositorys i have

Yeah...you arent using the correct process, see post #227 on this thread (just a few above as this is #234) and use that process, Have done it myself for over a year. And remember, if your reset the device before your "free" (lol) trial is up you have to do the process again. What I find handy is to keep a text filed saved to open in the notes program that way you can just copy and paste into xterm. Just remember to type a new mac in the text file when needed before you copy and paste. Any questions feel free to ask.

hm thats strange.
My process works fine. The only problem is connecting to my encrypted wlan. So I deactivated the encryption and use a macfilter..
Everything works but it may be a little bit shitty to change the macfilter every 7 days :D
Do you know why I cant connect even to it when its encrypted with WEP, WPA and WPA2? After reseting the device when the mac is changed to its original I can connect o.o

Ive never seen that method before, definitely easier. not sure why its like that..I connect to my router just fine when my mac is changed. I guess you can just fiddle with your router settings until youre able to connect while youre mac is changed.

Pinatz your issue sounds like an authentication issue with the router. I have come accross this when im "Testing my own WiFi" security with Aireplay.
Google Authentification with router and you should find lots of ways around. If not I will try and talk you through the process.

hmm. I tried out all settings and theres no other possibility than deactivating wpa and wep and only secure the wlan with an macfilter :/
And there is a second problem with the mac-changing.

When you want to drive for a long time, the tablet may drain all the power and then when you charged it then the old mac is back and you can't open the app any more because you dont have internet ;)

Somebody should find a way to crack the app :/

HM! And I thought about a second method. Why don't we create an app that just forwards the whole gps datastream and acts as a USB-GPS-Receiver for a program on pc (to use it with a laptop and software that is already cracked :D)
Hm.. cracking the wayfinder would be the more elegant way though.
