It has already been done via a USB to serial adapter http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=20433 You can connect your NIT into a computer's serial port and read 4800 baud NMEA sentences into a software of your choosing.

The holder model nr is CR-89. Just to plug the device in without anything to charge :> very stupid from nokia germany -.-

A car adapter didnt come with mine either. I got a car adapter for it at a walmart (im in the u.s.) with a retractable cord and the right tip...no usb or nothin.

I'm going to get a car charger for it. Seems to be needed while using gps. It drains the battery life faster than all other apps ^^

Yes, I am aware of this issue. It happens with some APs. I used my neighbors WiFi AP which was open to get a key, and then reverted back the MAC address and used libmacspoof.

I have this. My phone has a GPS. I can export this to another device (like N8x0) using BlueTooth. This way Wayfinder has quickly a lock. The bigger screen of N8x0 and it being dedicated to GPS is better than small phone screen also used for other stuff, but the software for phone (at least Symbian) is much more advanced and indeed can be easily cracked.

I'm trying and I have little knowledge in linux.

I put the version .337
And I did the test, I was offline and switched to mac, and I was online, then asked to leave and came perfectly.

Now I have the new MAC running.

How do the files (libmacspoof and libfaketime), where I run to edit these files to fool the Wayfinder.

Got to do some things, the libfakespoof works perfectly, but the libfaketime not work.
The mac I am using today is missing 5 days, then I am putting yesterday 2009-05-18, but there does not work, asks for license, for example when you put on 20 it works (it reduces 4), now not before putting work. Also tried to change the system date and taking libfaketime (leaving only the libmacspoof), the same thing happens.
It seems that the wayfinder knows the date certain if the late date.

How resolve this?

Bump from the past, you don't work on this anymore, but still... :)

Some problems, you've now taken over the fopen function but you only return something if the path is the "/sys/..." which means anything else fails :)

Also, fopen is not the function used to check for that file (at least according to this printf of the files it is opening), I'll try and ltrace and see which function it is.

Strace says: "open("/sys/devices/platform/wlan-omap/cal_mac_address", O_RDONLY)" but the LD_PRELOADED library does not register cal_mac_address as passing through it.

As strace says:o, open is the function that I needed to intercept.

Meh, made a LD_PRELOADable library but I'd still get licensing error. Made sed change the /sys string in the binary and I'd get the same so I thought **** it.

So I made a little package instead.
Modified macchanger to print random macs instead, capitalise the letters and made a script that launches it with a new mac when you need it.
It also sets up pinning (but does not remove it when uninstalling, you do that yourself).

1. Install http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com...77-1_armel.deb (it *has* to be 2.2.6.377)
2. Install http://freefile.kristopherw.us/uploa..._1.0_armel.deb
3. Run "Map (New MAC)", request a free trial. Let it restart.

When the trial expires, run "Map (New MAC)" and request trial. When you need to use Map (with the fake MAC that still works for a trial), run "Map (Old Fake MAC)".

When you uninstall, everything is restored,sans pinning, so remove relevant entries from /etc/apt/preferences manually.

easiest way I found is to make a notes file with following-taken from post many pages back.

macchanger --r wlan0
ifconfig wlan0 up

you obviously need macchanger and you need to be root to run above script - also need internet access cause as stated wayfinder phones home to request free trial. Also only works with version .377 again as stated many times.

I open notes file - select all - then in xterm after sudo gainroot - paste it.

two down sides - any favorites (wayfinder gps locations that is) get lost and (at least) I cannot connect to my wifi network with new mac until reboot but will connect to bluetooth phone no problem.

this solution has worked for me so far and is simple to use.

Anyone knows if that method still works. I did all that qwerty12 said, and it worked - but it was month ago. I tried it again few days ago, and there's back that message "please check your time settings before activation".

I use it, i love it. it works its safe. It have voice navigation ( if you mean that it says left and right here)
My wireless works perfectly even when my network is over NAT and using password :P

Navit works pretty well now with the OpenStreetMap data - no need to use these hacks on Wayfinder.

Can we work on some sort of permanent hack to get it activated? or edit a hosts file to use an alternative activation server, which will always activate regardless ;)

I have a small hack leftover from my N810 that I made for wayfinder, the latest version. If there is a safe place where I could post it, I will be happy to do it when I get home. Of course, the hack is inspired from this thread, the only thing that I made is a small application to make the requesting new demo license easier.

In a nutshell. If like me you have a valid licence, then it is currently still working, and I assume until my licence expires. I am hoping that it does not do any form of "phone home" before the licence expiry otherwise I'm stuffed as well.

well said. They could have at least offered to convert paid licences to perpetual since it's now abandonware.

On the upside, the N8x0s are now one step closer to the N900s, since they don't have any decent navigation.

Options are either to hack and crack wayfinder, or install Navit, and work on sorting it's rough edges. I installed and got it working yesterday.

Navit is an offline satellite navigation application performing same function as wayfinder, but using map data from openstreetmap.

You need to capture the wayfinder activation packets, find a way to make a (local?) server to emulate it. then edit your hosts file to redirect to the new server.

That is the only foolproof hack.

I bought wayfinder in December i reflashed yesterday and now i cant use it this is stupid!

i will have a go at cracking it.

Just how do i edit my n810's host file so i can use a wild card and then point all domains to a local ip.

Is it possible to edit the registry using gconf editor and make it work. I have no idea if this will work, but it's an idea that might work.
