Tablet now flashing "USB Device Not Supported" When Nothing Is Connected

Hmmm, another OS2008 on N800 screw-up?

Now, after a fresh power-up reboot, the tablet continually flashes the "USB Device Not Supported" system dialog in the top-right corner.

Problem is, no USB cable is connected! Ha ha, isn't this fun!

OK, so -- anyone seen this before? Is there a log file I could try to check?
Thanks!

Ok, quick solution here.

I seemed to have reset the USB scanner by shutting down the N800, connecting to the Mac, starting up in USB mode by holding the home button, then disconnecting the USB cable and letting the tablet restart on its own.

namtastic - thanks for providing your solution! It worked for me.

I had this very same problem for the first time myself this afternoon. All I had was my N800 on the mains charger. It was upgraded to the latest OS last week.

I have the same problem that the tablet suddenly start to tell "USB Device Not Supported", I can't stop it without restarting.

It's really bad for the battery, and sometimes the tablet also just restarts all the time....
Is there someone that has the same? or that knows how to solve this problem?

That wasn't a solution - it was a workaround. The problem comes back.

I am seeing the same problem. It goes through battery fast once it starts doing that. Rebooting fixes the problem but it can come back few days or even weeks later.

Same issue. The only way I found to get ride of it was to reboot the device.

well, yet another workaround, but using maemo control usb, and setting up USB networking in the control panel applet, for some reason solves (kind of) the problem. Is this somewhere in bugzilla by the way or am I missing something REALLY obvious?

Most obvious possible source of the problem is the USB connector. Do a visual check and use some compressed air to blow out any dust/etc that may be stuck in there. If for some reason there's an intermittent short between pins 4 and 5 on the USB jack this will happen. The only other obvious solution is to manually set device to device mode instead of OTG mode, but again I would check the physical connector first. This problem will have arisen after upgrading to 2008 since that is the first OS release that supported automatic OTG host-mode.

Thanks,
-Rob
