Re: Canola and OGG support
I did get oggs working in my N810 with these instructions. Not very easy but working solution anyway. I've been waiting this support for Canola2 and now I'm very happy Canola user. Thanks for the Canola team, keep up the good work!

Re: Canola and OGG support
Markku: once the packages from the ogg support are in the maemo extras we will be able to simplify this a lot!
Cheers marcelo |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Until all the repos are sorted, could you update the Canola page (http://openbossa.indt.org/canola/using.html) to point to the relevant part of this thread? The current method on there doesn't work and is a bit confusing.
I had to re-flash my N800 after a slight accident in the terminal (hint: typing 'apt-get upgrade' and tapping 'Y' is not a good idea!), and it was by pure chance I found this thread while trying to make OGG support work. PS: Thanks for stopping me from having to buy an iPod ;) |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Hmm... here's a slightly irritating "feature"...
Canola playing MP3s works fine. Canola playing OGGs stops playing after every track, requiring me to manually press "next track" to hear more music. This is a fresh install of OS2008, Canola and the OGG libraries. |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Piku : you need to give us more information :
run canola -vvv on xterm.. try pressing the next button and send us what's on the terminal. Maybe a bug, and we can fix it Thanks! Marcelo |
Re: Canola and OGG support
OK, here's some output from running Canola from the console. I don't know how much of this you want. If you need stuff before this, just ask
Code:
1207933815.7537 DEBUG manager:156:get_class() looking for first class with filter 'Controller/Media/Audio/Local'Code:
1207934035.9384 DEBUG controller:522:_player_buffering() Player's Buffering: 0 |
Re: Canola and OGG support
I'm having the same behavior from Canola. It worked fine with the last versions, only the newest release can't finish oggs. Since most of my music is oggs I hope this'll get fixed soon. Can I help with my console output? This is just starting and playing one song, with no interaction when it didn't finish (stayed at -0:00 but didn't stop):
Code:
Thanks for your great work! |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Hi guys thanks for the feedback... We are already investigating.

Re: Canola and OGG support
I am beginning to think there is something wrong with my tablet! I followed the instructions given in the previous post and I have still have no ogg files in canola. I can see/play them in media player, I can play them in canola if I start a podcast and let it continue on. I have no files when I try to view my music though. I double checked I had the files installed- and they are all there. So what am I doing wrong?
|
Re: Canola and OGG support
Hi Davis,
Did you selected the folder where your .oggs are in the media library -> folders? Also : I know you followed the instructions, but one "/" wrong or missing slash or things like that can mess up everything : / can you make sure you did it "100%" equal to the instructions? This is a little bit more complicated thing to help because there's no easy way to debug this : / Marcelo |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Marcelo,
Thanks for the reply. Yes I have the folder selected. I tried selecting the parent directory, and then I at least had media- my podcasts all showed up. 100% ? As I said, I checked that both libvorbis0a and lightmediascaner were installed-which they were. Is there a better more complete way of verifying ? |
Re: Canola and OGG support
I'm trying to verify that with Etrunko (who is doing the easier packages with Tuomas by now) But is harder as this is not related to Canola itself and indeed to the scanner (LMS).
I need to check with him if theres a way to make the scanner print some error information to help you Marcelo |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Would those instructions work with mogg instead?
The speex codec in ogg-support breaks voip so i'm a bit more inclined towards mogg. |

Re: Canola and OGG support
Thank you, problem solved. I didn't know it came up before. I changed ~/.atabake/config to general=oms and it works fine. :)

Re: Canola and OGG support
Wow, I'm at the end of my line here. Where the heck do I find the lightmediascanner0-ogg package? The instructions just ask me to dpkg -i the package, but gives me nowhere to actually download the bloody thing!

I think the link to the lightmediascanner0-ogg package was on the Canola site, but it seems to have gone, or it wasn't. Googling for it just brings up this thread and nothing else. I searched Gronmayer but there's no entry for it either. |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Today (2006-04-26) I followed the directions found here:
http://openbossa.indt.org.br/canola/using.html#formats (click the link in the footnote that says: "you must follow this instructions" ) lightmediascanner0-ogg: http://kenneth.christiansen.googlepa..._0.3_armel.deb Also, for those of you who want to continue to use voip function in gtalk... open xterm and type: sudo gainroot cd /usr/lib/gstreamer-<0.10 or something.. it may vary> mv ./libgstspeex.so ./old_libgstspeex.so Worked for me. |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Now there is lightmediascanner0-ogg, but deps on ogg-support 0.7, which I couldn't find.
Any advice? (yes, old instructions do work) |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Just want to point out that 0.4 is available:
http://kenneth.christiansen.googlepa..._0.4_armel.deb AStorm, it's Tuomas's Kulve's ogg support from the OS2008 software catalogue. |
Re: Canola and OGG support
qwerty12: I see only version 0.6 there, not 0.7 as required by lightmediascanner0-ogg...
Thanks for newer -lms |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Hmm that's odd.
In version 0.4 of lms, it says ogg-support (>=0.2) Maybe it will work with 0.6? (But I think that is a mistake on the author's part. 0.7 doesn't exist, maybe thats why 0.4 was made?) |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Ok, thanks to AStorm/AstralStorm for testing this out.
This is lightmediascanner0 with the ogg-support pointing to 0.6 (which actually exists :p) http://www.mediafire.com/?im21s1n2mg1 You will also need a newer libvorbisidec which can be obtained from here: https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa....0-2_armel.deb According to AStorm, Quote:

Re: Canola and OGG support
Trying to get the lightmediascanner-ogg working, and that needs liblightmediascanner any clues where that one is?? How's the ogg-support package coming?
|
Re: Canola and OGG support
Hi Davis : the ogg support is not our projects : / but look on the other posts there's the link!
Marcelo |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Just to inform you guys that Canola now works with ogg support. Please check the post on my blog for the link:
http://etrunko.blogspot.com/2008/05/...n-canola2.html Best regards, Etrunko. |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Tried to install from the link above and got complaints about libvorbisidec1. I uninstalled mogg and the package installed just fine. Canola just became ten times more usable for me. Thanks!
|
Re: Canola and OGG support
I'm glad it worked for you. I've just found today that we have two different solutions for Ogg in Maemo. Tuomas' ogg-support and mogg, developed by Tilman Vogel. I'll study and talk to the guys responsible for both projects and try to find a unified solution for this.

Re: Canola and OGG support
Thank you guys-
Marcello, Tuomas and Eduardo. Thanks for putting up with my questions (and sometimes attitude)! It works for me- after 6 months of doing everything but recompiling the kernel. I am going to back up my tablet and never update now! Thanks again Davis- |

Re: Canola and OGG support
Has anyone gotten this to work on the 770/OS2006? I tried installing Tuomas' ogg-support-lightmediascanner (through dpkg -i) but it did nothing. It seems that its dependencies aren't available for OS2006
|
Re: Canola and OGG support
I followed the instructions on http://openbossa.indt.org/canola2/add.html, but the package for Ogg support cannot be installed due to missing dependencies on diablo. Any news?
|
Re: Canola and OGG support
Hi Vinc,
As you probably heard Diablo's new way for deploy software implicates that the build must be done on the server, so until the ogg support code is not uploaded there(by the maintainers) our ogg support for diablo will not work, because it can't get compiled... So sorry for this but we are also waiting for the ogg developers... Br Marcelo |
Re: Canola and OGG support
Hi. I have installed latest Canola for Diablo and it seems to play oggs straight without separate ogg-support package. Is this true?
Canola is running very well on Diablo. Thank you Canola team! |

Re: Canola and OGG support
Well false alarm about that ogg support, I deleted .canola folder and restarted tablet and started Canola. No oggs found, quess it was old database that made possible to play tnose oggs. So, waiting for the ogg-support update for Diablo.
|
Re: Canola and OGG support
Hi guys, indeed..
Now we need the ogg support for diablo to be there on the server to be able to compile canola's ogg support. : / Sorry for the inconvenience |
Re: Canola and OGG support
any idea when the ogg developers will update for diablo? as i would like to use diablo but i have a full 16 gb sd card of oggs i don't want to convert
