Some VNC problems
Hey, I have been some trouble with configuring my n800 to view my desktop. I followed this guide (tinyurl.com/18r), but i keep getting the "Could not connect to Server" message. I have the latest version of Ubuntu and I've never used VNC b4 so plzzz post a reply!

Re: Some VNC problems
"http://tinyurl.com/18r" is a blank page. (I checked the page source, a couple of tags, no content.)
Make sure you're running... Quote:
On your N800 your connection address should be something like : 192.168.1.10:5901 Mine (on Ubuntu) updates the screen on my tablet every 5 mins or so. Sometimes a few times every 10-15 secs or so if I'm lucky. |

Re: Some VNC problems
i tried what you said above but really didn't understnd it to well.
would it make a difference if i connected to the same network as my computer is connected to? |
Re: Some VNC problems
Oh, looking at that website, it looks like he's giving the screen # instead of the port. Where he puts:
192.168.1.10:0 instead try 192.168.1.10:5900 ... and see if that works. IPs with 192.168.x.x are local to only your network so yes, if you're trying this way both machines should be on the same accesspoint. |
Re: Some VNC problems
kk i'll try this as soon as i can! :)

Re: Some VNC problems
ok, this is the ip adress of my comp. : 192.168.2.150
Is this what i am suppose to type in my n800? 192.168.2.150:5900 If so, it's not working..It's giving me the same old "Could not Connect to Server..." |
Re: Some VNC problems
You might have to change some things on your router. Go into the router configuration and enable (or setup) NAT (Network Address Translation). For 192.168.2.150 enable port forwarding on port 5900. Check your router manual or google for more info (every router's different).

Re: Some VNC problems
kk, i'll try that.

Re: Some VNC problems
Ok, it tried setting up port forwarding on my router, but the problem still persists!!
Here is a link to a screen shot of what i am doing. I have an SMC router if it helps. http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/7...shotjn6.th.png |
Re: Some VNC problems
Hmm looks right to me.
What version of VNC are you using for Linux? I'm not using tightvnc, rather x11vnc. It connects via port 5900 and shows you the current screen (doesn't start a new session). Try grabbing that through Synaptic. Don't forget to set a password. |
Re: Some VNC problems
kk, i'll try that as soon as i come home. I also just saw that you live in toronto :D . Rite now i'm visting my my cousins in Markham and don't wanna mess up their computer:).

Re: Some VNC problems
If your tablet and PC are on the same subnet it should work. You don't need to enter the port number unless you've changed the default port on your PC.
Have you ever connected to your PC running VNC from any other computer? Is your tablet getting an IP address from the SMC? Confirm that you are on your wireless network by opening a browser window and see if you can reach the Internet. Connect to Google for example. Check that the IP address being given to your tablet is in the same subnet as your PC. You might install WifiInfo on your tablet and to check the IP handed out to your tablet. |
