Connection issues...
My n800 (with OS2008) seems to have problems with wireless connections after upgrading.
I'm using the same N95 and WiFi AP I used before upgrading from OS2007, but now the BT connection to my Nokia hangs 4-5 times an hour... not better with WLAN. I must scan 3/4 times for internet connection to find my WLAN. Connection often fails, and if it doesn't fail it hangs after a few minutes... What's going on? |
Re: Connection issues...
I'm having the same problem. With OS2007 and my N800, I never had a problem accessing the web via my wireless connection, With OS 2008 now installed, it hangs up or locks just about every time I try to go online. Arghhh!

Re: Connection issues...
I also have a similar problem. There is a fix somewhere on this site that requires x-term. I tried it, but the problem remains, if not a little less. It's like the web page times out due to the wireless connection failing. Wireless AP works on every other device including this one, difference is those other devices continue to work without fail. I think this is a definite bug. Re-flashed with 2007, worked fine there. Then back to 2008 fresh, same trouble. Did the supposed fix for sleep timeout issue of wlan, still have the problem. I'm hoping there will be a simple command to enter as a fix.
Does your IT2008 n800 hang up after a few pages of browsing? Does it say "connecting..." in your microb browser? If you let it time out, does it say something about a connection issue? Please reply here whoever reads this! We need to get the bugs out. |
Re: Connection issues...
This is exactly what I'm experiencing as well. In attempting to connect to the web, it says "connecting", then locks up. After a while of nothing happening, I get some error message about a connection issue. Usually then, the machine locks up, and I can't get it to turn off, unless I pull out the battery. There are some major bugs here.

Re: Connection issues...
I don't have this problem but I understand it may be related to a change in the Wi-Fi Power Saving mode in OS2008. By default it is now quite aggressive about turning the radio off to save power. It seems to cause problems with some wireless routers.
You can find the setting in the Advanced /Other section of your WLAN connection settings. Try turning Power Saving off and if that fixes it then you can try Intermediate to see if it is a usable compromise. |

Re: Connection issues...
Here's the latest on my troubleshooting for this browser failure issue. I installed Mozilla Minefield last night. It's another available browser in the repositories. Wow, is it ever buggy. But once it's fixed it will be the only one we will want to use! Great features, has almost all of the functionality of a desktop Firefox experience. Right now it's missing the full screen mode and text input only works in thumb board mode. Other little bugs exist too. But it does work despite the caveats.
So after installing and rebooting, I configured the new browser. After clicking on a few links here and there it did the same thing as the built-in browser does- just stops responding and cannot connect or browse any further without restarting the browser. I ran an extended ping in x-term during the "locked up" times in both browsers and I was getting decent response from sites like yahoo and google. This means that it's not the WiFi connection causing the problem. You could change the timeouts and power saving settings all you want, but it won't change the fact that the browser(s) are not getting through. Both of these browsers are based on Mozilla code. Something there is being affected by input from the user or some other code the device is running at the same time. And since the problem existed from a fresh re-flash to OS2008 that isolates it down to the apps and code from the official release. Since OS2008 is responsible for the issue, there is a definite bug that I tossed into Bugzilla that hopefully someone will fix and release a new update for the broken/conflicting code. The bug ID is 2676. If you have this problem, please be sure to add a post even if it's just a quick one to confirm you are having it too. |
Re: Connection issues...

Re: Connection issues...
Here's a connection issue I have. Not sure it's the same as what is described in this thread.
I upgraded to os2008 on my N800. Tried mightily to download Canola 2 and some other software but the download always hung. I know about the repository problems. The last time I tried, I happened to be connected to an internet radio station. The download went through perfectly. This also worked when I downloaded some other software subsequent to that. Any thoughts on why this would be? |

Re: Connection issues...
I'm using application mgr. I know very little about linux and nothing about command lines and ssh. This N800 is my first foray into this area. I have picked up a lot of info, but it is incomplete.
It would be helpful to me, and probably others as well, if there were a link on here to somewhere where there is an explanation of the basics: deb files, repositories, becoming root, commands, compiling, sources and the rest of it. Example: I looked up info on downloading mplayer on its homepage and didn't understand it. If there isn't a green download arrow, I'm lost. I've tried googling for explanations of how linux is structured, but it's confusing and there are many kinds. I don't know if the rules for one apply to them all. Basically, when I read a post referring to this stuff, I feel like I came in in the middle and it goes over my head. |
Re: Connection issues...
I removed the power saving into WIFI preferences, but the issue is still here.
The strange thing is that after connection hangs my n800 is not able to discover WLAN any more... Considering that also Bluetooth DUN is quite unstable now and there is no Bluetooth PAN it's frustrating... |
