If you run the program at a home PC or wherever while running on that PC a VNC server (google it, you can download it for free) then you install VNC Viewer on the Internet Tablet, you could do it that way. Just remember the IP address and input that into the VNC Viewer on the tablet (you obviously must be connected to the internet somehow).

i vaguely understand.. i have vnc server -- dont know how to load to n800 .. but when i do, i put home IP into vnc viewer (whatever that is) and i can find / play from the poker site? will a table open up on my home PC?

rdesktop is a really easy way to access programs on your PC as well. Heck, I opened CorelDraw from my N800 just for fun, and by golly, I could actually work with it! Yeah, it wasn't easy, but still...

and you were out of direct home network?.. im assuming.. theres a place to enter home IP and you have the app on both machines..

Rdesktop is short for Remote desktop. It actually takes over the target PC. Due to this I created a special profile on my PC just for the tablet, with the proper resolution, etc. So when I log onto my PC (over my home wifi) using rdesktop the current user is logged out of it and the N800 actually becomes a "window" into the PC environment. You're running apps on the PC but viewing and interacting with them via the tablet.

and theres a usual way to do the same when your out of range of home network,, assuming.. im sure that im gonna want some more help for this once i actually get it.. i hope its ok to either pm you or find this thread and go into it further when i get to sticking point.. im assuming that any rdesktop will do or does it pretty much need to be the windoze version..that actually brings up more questions..
thanx

No, this won't work outside the range of your home network, at least not without VPN.

And you want to run rdesktop on the tablet, not the PC. BUT-- you need to enable remote access on the PC. On XP it's simple, but Vista adds more qualifiers, such as which version of rdesktop you'll allow. You would of course want to enable "any version".

You won't even need virtual server for home usage.

I have played PokerStars online with my N800 but rdesktop and another computer that is online (running the PokerStars client) is required. I actually used VNC (not rdesktop) to do it here in my homes WLAN.

I dunno about rdesktop, but with VNC the sound (wave files) don't play on the N800 so you don't here the pokerchips clinking and the timeout audibles (beep) don't come thru the N800 speakers. I have the sounds come out the sound card on the desktop/laptop the N800 is VNC'd to.

The whole thing is a hack, but it works if you want to lay on the couch and use the n800. I'll post a video on YouTube in a few moments of the N800 running PokerStars and FullTiltPoker.

Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K9vCXWxgr8

Good for laying in bed or on the couch or out on the deck in the backyard, or by the pool.

This can be done away from home, using VNC providing you know enough about networking and know how to connect to your home computer remotely via the web (your home machine will be running the actual PStars app.). I've done it but didn't like the experience because there are no sounds.

I clipped off the part of the video where I show FullTiltPoker as it was redundant. The same method applies as getting PS to work.

If you still aren't sure, just search the forum on how to do it. It has already been explained in this thread. I am sure there are many more that is even more in depth.

Re: Pokerstars

hey post back on this thread if that wqorks out for you well. I havent bought the n800 yet but one of the biggest reasons i want one is to play poker on it. If its sketchy and will mess up im not too sure i want it...so yeah let me know please!!!!!

xxM5xx 2008-01-09 06:18

Re: Pokerstars

It is not sketchy and it won't mess anything up. Google VNC on the Nokia N800 and you should be able to put the pieces together. It isn't difficult. This forum has threads on how to VNC too, so just search. Once you VNC your N800 to a desktop or laptop you can run just about anything except things that requires rapid screen changes like watching video or gaming where the whole screen changes rapidly. Online poker works fine. Enjoy.
