Re: KDE/Koffice Install made easy for everyone
I really want to port KDE apps, but I need a guide to compiling KDE. Just image how quickly we can get apps once everybody are in the mix! Also, on another note, I'm currently working on how to minimize Maemo's usage of memory to help with KDE. I know we can minimize the memory usage. I'm trying to see if I can boot my ITT and just load one menu with 2 options: KDE and Shut Down By doing so, the CPU will not be under so much stress. KDE is great!!!
NOTE: I used rm -rf /home/user/.font* to try to restore my MicroB fonts, but once again, I got a no go. :( Damn you "Font Screen of Death" :P Linux Rulez!!! |

I haven't tested other apps, but they weren't affected by this 'bug'. At least, I hope nothing else was relying on that file, since I did just delete it:eek: EDIT: Well, it did work. Sorta. The next time I ran KDE and quit, the fixed font was back in MicroB. Now, the only thing I've done is to delete that .font file, just the once. I'm going to try again, but something tells me that each time KDE loads, that .font file gets re-written. |
Re: KDE/Koffice Install made easy for everyone
I've just installed KDE vie .deb and it works great! Much faster than I expected. :D
I checked the file sizes before the install but checksums would have been safer - unfortunately I dont see md5sum/cksum/sum in OS2008 and busybox doesn't seem to have applets. If you want to compare your downloads with mine here are some quick and dirty check sums using perl for the mmc2 install: cd /media/mmc2 for x in *.deb *.bz2; do cat $x | perl -e 'while(sysread(STDIN,$b,65536)>0){$s=($s<<5)^(($s> >27)&0x1f)^unpack("%32C*",$b); } printf "@ARGV[0]: sum = %08x\n",$s' $x; done output: kde-3.5.8-mmc2.deb: sum = d4efe249 kdesup-3.5.8.deb: sum = 0f1fd455 local-mmc2.deb: sum = bac96eaf KDE358.tar.bz2: sum = 4ee7b895 |
Re: KDE/Koffice Install made easy for everyone
yes, I am going to have to port md5sum to be used in future installs because this is just madness!

Re: KDE/Koffice Install made easy for everyone
Tried installing but failed on second file...
I downloaded files to a linux desktop and transferred to my memory card. On my desktop the file sizes were correct, but on my memory card the size of the biggest one lost about 20 megabytes... It did this after I transferred the files a couple times, still "lost" the same amount of data everytime... Now when I enter my memory card the n800 displays a message that says it's corrupt. I tried reformatting it with file manager but that didn't work. How do I get my SDHC 4GB memory card back in working order so I can flash my tablet and try the process over again? PS. The files were all supposed to go on the same memory card, Correct? |

Well its just a matter of space if you have space you can install anythng. That being said, someone has to compile firefox, I tried lots, I can not compile firefox, thunderbird, mozilla. Konqueror, links, were the only useable browsers I could ever make work. If someone compiles firefox, it will fire right on in KDE.. |
