Plugins should (unless I am speaking out of my arse) be compiled specifically for each platform and thus, the x86 Linux versions will not work.

OK, so I am a bit confused here.

FWIW I'm using an N810.

I repartioned the internal 2GB card as described at maemo.org. I also installed the boot menu and cloned the OS, also from maemo.org.

This left me with a .5GB VFAT system and a 1.5GB linux (OS) partition.

So of course when I tried to install I'm told there's not enough room.

Considering the device is only using .5GB of it's 1.5GB partition I'm wondering why the instructions partition as they do. Seems to me one would want more of the internal card available, but perhaps that's fodder for another post.

Before I attempt any work arounds, is it at all possible to install KDE on the built-in 2GB card of the N810? I believe the answer is no because you state you have to be booting from flash for this to work.

If that's the case, then is the MMC2 install meant only for N800 users who may have a 4GB card as internal?

Oh and another question....

If I decide to install on my 4GB external card, will it wipe out everything that's on there? I currently have some data on there and don't want to lost it. Of course I can back it up first but I'd like to think I'll be able to use the remaining 2GB for storage.

Hopefully one last question. On your site you only mention the two KDE files and just untarring them from within the OS.

Yet in this thread you also have people download a local file and another file dependant on mmc.

Why?

I agree. Other than youtube/stage6, I have yet to run into a website that gives problems, even iTT browse smoothly!

Oh well, I thought this was the solution to the font issue, but I spoke too soon alas. I have been doing some testing and it appears that this little workaround works only sometimes.

In the interest of providing feedback to those readers who might have an idea about that's going on, here is what happened during my little series of tests this afternoon:

If I reboot immediately after deleting the file, then the fonts are back to normal in MircoB. But, when I close the browser and re-open it, the fonts are broken again.

If I open the browser *before* rebooting, the fonts are broken despite the reboot.

Also, this might be a good place to ask if anyone else is having difficulty with the usb host mode post-KDE. It could be a coincidence, but I was using it just prior to installation and I am no longer able to connect in host mode. I noticed this behavior before I tried the font 'solution', so I am guessing they are unrelated, but it sure seems like it had something to do with the KDE install. Any ideas or similar experiences?

You are mixing two different installs processes

If you are booting from mmc/SD on 1.5GB partition follow the instructions on bottom of KDE page on tablethacker.com

If you are not booting from mmc,follow the instructions here

TWO DIFFERENT INSTALL PROCESSES :)

I reccomend boot from SD, over DEB install, but thats just my preference.

@ Griff, I can verify that you can install KDE on the internal 2GB MMC of the N810. I'm personally using the 'Boot from MMC' install of KDE instead of the .deb - since you've already gone to the trouble to partion & format, I would just go the 'Boot' route, too. :)

Ah ok, this makes sense! May I suggest that you clarify this in the first post here? Maybe just something that says "This install is only for people who do not want to run their OS from MMC, for those running from MMC visit my website..."

Why do you recommend booting from SD? Just curious.

running the OS off flash is slower than off SD. It is a jffs2 filesystem which is compressed. That compression has overhead. I have not done any tests lately, but it was like 15-20 seconds faster on boot.
