To adjust font size in KDE: Open KMenu -> Control Center -> Appearance ->Fonts -> Set the fonts to what you want.

I personally use Nokia Smiley size 13 for General, Menu, and Window title then Nokia Sans size 11 for everything else (except Fixed Width). This seems to work well for easy readability without affecting functionality.

Note** You'll need to change the fonts in Konquerer separately if you want. To do that open Konqueror ->Menu ->Settings-> Configure Konqueror-> Scroll down to Fonts and set them here.

I use Nokia Sans 13 & 14. If you go larger than 13/14 you'll start getting some wonky views of webpages.

Hi. For some reason I can't get past the first step. I download all the necessary files, attempt to run local-mmc1.deb and it fails almost immediately. If I run local-mmc2 it works normally until the internal memory fills up and runs out of space. Here is the log after it fails:
Any suggestions or help as to whyn this may be failing? Thanks. :)

let me say you did a masterful job with the KDE effort. Having said that, its functionality seems limited by the fact that KDE doesn't know it is running on an IT rather than a computer. Screens that don't fit, lack of a right click stylus input are just a few of the items that make it a fun and appealing program, but not one ready for everyday use or users. So my question is simple: is it possible and will it ever happen that KDE (or another like Fedora) will ever be tweaked to run specifically as an IT program or is the future always going to be one of work arounds and glitches to adjust it life on an IT?

obviously, this is meant as an observation of KDE and not your fine efforts to bring it to the IT.

Just give it time and some effort and you can make it functional. I know at first it can seem like a difficult task to use it. Just make sure you read many of the helpful KDE posts or do effective searches on the subjects you need help with and you can get it going. I think with the N810 and it's built in keyboard you have a great opportunity to do so. Especially look for posts written by PinCushionQueen because she has written several helpful posts on how to set up keyboard shortcuts. I struggled for quite a while to be able to move the dialogue boxes up high enough that needed input at the bottom of the page. But once I had the knowledge of how to do it, I am now able to do that just fine on my less capable N800. And, of course, with the n810 you don't have the virtual keyboard getting in the way like it sometimes does on the N800. Here's another thing that can help you right now. Maybe you've already seen and read it, but go check out my thread about using VNC with this. For now, while this seems so small to you, you can have it full size on your regular PC and then have almost normal input functions like right-click. VNC is surprisingly easy to get going. There are KDE tutorials on the web as you may have found by now. They can be very helpful. And lastly, email works, but you will need to run the commands in xterm that PB wrote in the associated thread here about that. If you are not familiar with xterm, well, I ended up getting that task done with a lot of help from albright.
So, obviously I can't answer your question about a more native KDE, but I can say that this kDE can be quite useful,, but will take some extra work to get it going.

but actually i have 2 gb external mmc and the original 256 mb internal one
o chance to install kde even from external sources, or cant i format my mmc and install kde then turn my files back to mmc , files like mp3s , videos , etc ???
i really want to have it in my hands:confused:

I must say that completely agree with Sungrove! :) With a bit of effort KDE can be made ready for everyday use (especially on the N810). I personally haven't used Maemo at all in over a month. I use KDE exclusively as my desktop environment. I did have to grab a few scripts and set up some keyboard shortcuts and hotkeys but it's all been well worth the effort. I still use some Maemo apps but they are all launched from KDE. I even use KPackage instead of the Maemo Application Manager - it's waay superior, kinda like running apt-get from the command line but with a better GUI.

It funny, I read the forums and see people complaining about lack of document support, lack of PIM support, lack of offline browing, poor chat software, lack customization, lack of easy button mapping - every single time I want to say "KDE will give you what you want" (I used to actually post this but people seemed disinterested so I gave up).

Any "workarounds" (eg: using a script mapped to a button for right click or moving windows) that I may have to employ are NOTHING compared to what I gain by using KDE.

As Sungrove pointed out there are quite a few posts on suggestions for optimizing KDE. Also Penquinbait has made a v2 that is being tested by dual boot users right now that has quite a few improvements (.deb installers will need to wait a bit longer).

All this said - I totally understand not wanting to mess around with tweaking KDE to your liking, but want to encourage you to give it a try before you write it off and not good for everyday use. :)

IMHO, the kde environment is incomparably better
than the hildon environment

But ... kde is painfully slow (on my tablet korganizer
takes like a minute to start), resource hungry (I have
to switch to hildon to watch some movies which don't
run smoothly enough in KDE [most movies work fine
in kde however]) and takes up a huge amount of
card space.

Hmmm... KOrganizer only takes 35 seconds to load on my N810. Are you dual booting or did you install from .deb? I'm dual booting, I wonder if that's what is speeding things up?

FWIW, Konqueror will load in ~10 seconds; KWord only takes 17 seconds; KPDF load in 7secs with an addition 10 sec to load an 8MB pdf (and lets not forget that KPDF actually remembers your place in the document - which should gain it 10 seconds just for me not having to hunt down where I left off).

I don't dispute that a few of my divx movies need to be run from mplayer in Maemo (running from mplayer in KDE is still too slow) but that's one small inconvenience (for me at least).

No you need 1 card, with at least 2GB free space.

You can install to mmc1 OR mmc2 NOT BOTH
