Do you guys leave the shipping film on your flat screen TV's or computer monitors?

I always remove the shipping film, it's an old habit from when they used to use static cling film. If you turned the device on with one of those it could cause a nice little ESD and damage your new toy. And in the spirit of this thread, when I get my n810 I think I'll leave it in the box and try to use it from inside, god forbid I might drop it and ding the paint. :D

I peeled the film off my 770, but as a test I left it on the N800 and discovered it was and still is after 10 months perfectably usable!

@cakey: not a fair analogy, how about if your TV/Flat Screen came with a mains plug attached but the manufacturer removed one of the pins from the mains plug just because they can? You can go buy another plug, they don't cost much.

Aside from the fact that I've never seen a TV or computer monitor that comes with a screen protector, do you frequently use a stylus on either of those devices? ;)

You repeated the above already three times.
But what makes you funny and laugh at
are we, poor people, who can't afford to spend $600 each year for new gizmo by Nokia, trying hard to protect our expensive device with best possible result.
For a manufacturer like Nokia and others a right screen protector is $1 a piece extra cost but for a customer, total cost (price + delivery/ shipment, cut the right size) is $10 total or more.
So paying $600 for a new hot gizmo in UE $1 extra makes no problem
to pay All inclusive price and get touchscreen protection from the very beginning.

\
I can send you pictures of my old Yornada used without screen protector, making it still fully-working and having touchscreen look like 10-yrs old with holes not scratches only.

So , my dear friend, please give us a chance to protect our new hot device made by Nokia to look like new on a day new N900 model comes to a market to get fair sum of money from second-hand device market back.

Darius

Mil, that analogy blows, too. Where's the lost functionality in this case?

For the love of Pete, when you buy a car or the dealership does work on it, you often might find it given to you with paper floor mats. Would you leave those in as long as you could? Perhaps. Would you ***** that Honda "only" gave you paper floor mats? of course not. Here's the deal. Nokia is allowed to think that a person who buys such an expensive item will want to take care of it to whatever extent they want. This doesn't mean they "owe" you anything that will protect it. Why don't you complain that the case isn't 4 inches thicker with air freight rated foam? How about a rack mount for it intended for computers/audio/video equipment? Why doesn't Dell or IBM sell their laptops with laptop bags standard? Because if you are as anal as some of you seem to be, then you wont leave the house ever with it, thus negating the need for it. The Consumer Protection Act of any particular country you are from would never, ever demand that this be so. Treos don't come with screen protectors standard. In dash navigation units don't come with screen protectors standard. iTouch and iPhones don't come with screen protectors standard. Because if you take your device out on the ice to play hockey, its going to get messed up.

How about you decide that if you plan on putting your device through a rougher patch than I plan to, that you pony up for your own screen protector. While I care less about if it comes with a screen protector than hearing everyone weigh in on this enthralling topic while my thread about connection scripts goes unanswered ;), I will go on the record and say that I am glad they don't ship it with screen protectors so that it keeps the price down.
