www.ipkall.com provides free phone numbers in Washington state. The numbers can be forwarded to a SIP address, either through a sip registrar such as Sipphone/Gizmo or directly to your SIP phone.

Note that VoIP calls may not work from Dubai. According to some articles I've read, VoIP in Dubai is blocked by the ISPs. Furthermore, it may be illegal. For more details search google for these terms:

Thanks for the invite, guys. I got as far as the registration and because I don't have a working US number, it won't let me register. ouch! :(

(also for everyone else, if you just register there, they have been sending them out within hours, if you don't get an invite from them first, THEN post here.)

ghoonk. You might be able to 'share' an account with one of your stateside friends, using thier number. Once set up you can change or have it only forward to your sip number.

Only down side is It wouldn't accept a sip as a temporary forward number. (would have bypassed the requirement to press 1). That won't be an issue once they accept voice commands.
