VNC Problem
 

Ok I feel ******ed but i cant get vnc to work. I have the vnc viewer on my n800 i got off maemo. I then installed tightvnc and couldnt get it to work and the ultra vnc and had...i think... the same problem with both of them. Number one i cant get my n800 to connect to my desktop. I have the number used as the vnc server name and when i try to connect it just says "could not connect to server" I noticed something wierd about both tightvnc and ultra vnc is that i can't change the password in the properties in either software. When i close them out and open back they are back to whatever they were when i first downloaded...anyways any help on what i can do im kinda new at this.

On PC, go to start/run/ type cmd/on the black box type ipconfig /all
Jot down the ip address.
Make sure Zone Alarm (if you have it) is shot down for the time being.
Hover the mouse to the bottom right hand corner over the TightVNC icon and verify that it is the same ip address.
Right click on the VNC icon and select properties/change the password/under the display tab choose full desktop
On the N800, type the ip address/password

Ok see i did all that. The weird thing is that when i click properties the two passwords are there "Primary Password" and "View-Only Password" (on tightvnc) I change them both to a password with 7 characters....click apply...click ok and when i re-open the properties a second later, both passwords have 8 characters. My n800 acts like it is trying to connect because if i type a bogus password in the viewer it immediately says it cant connect but when i type my real ip address that i would use it takes about 15 seconds before the same cannot connect screen pops up. Would this have anything to do with the fact im on my schools internet???

Since you are not at home, your school might have some type of GPO in effect and or restrictions via router, I can't help you there.
Now if you are at home or when you get home, try to disable the authentication in the query tab and go from there.

ok i was messin around with it and i got it to work on my roomates computer and mine. I had full control of his computer so i dont think its the school...But still if i open the properties window and then change the primary password and close it and reopen the porperties it changes the password right back...The way i connected them was by "Add a new client" and typed the ip address but the viewer had to be in listening mode and there is no option for listening mode in the vnc viewer i downloaded for maemo? Anything?

Listening mode is for VNC Server.

VNC Server (accepts incoming connections)
VNC Viewer (goes out to make connections)

If you want to connect to your N800 you have to install the VNC Server on the N800.

Vnc viewer can also act as a listener. Practical in some circunstances (firewall,..) :)

ok so if i want to control my desktop with my n800 i have to install vnc server on my n800 and the vnc viewer on my desktop????
