1. Trash can works for me - are you dragging and dropping the application icon to the trash can? Not sure what you're doing...

2. If trash doesn't work, you can use Konqueror and navigate to home/user/desktop from here you can add/delete/edit items to the desktop. You might try opening trash from here too - maybe you corrcupted your trash file?

3. See number 4 in my post on page 1 of the KDE settings recommendations thread.

4. No, I've searched and searched and can't find a solution. There are alternate ways of doing almost anything - what are you wanting to do?

I tried No. 2 and all i got was "A folder named /usr/share/mime/Trash already exists"

makes no difference what i drag into the trash can. it says it already exists.

Just created a folder on desktop, and then dragged it to Trash - worked as expected here.

N800/Booting from SD Card

Re: KDE Desktop issues

Not running KDE here yet, but EmelFM2 whines at me every time I start it,
because it "Cannot create trash directory /usr/share/mime/Trash/files".
Related?
When I try to create the Trash directory manually,
I get "creation possible: no(cannot write to parent directory)"
Root is the owner. I haven't deciphered what the permissions mean yet.
Wicked noobish here.

For those with the Trash problem - did you install to SD or from Debs?

Looks like a permission problem with the DEB's

As root, run

chown user.users /usr/share/mime/
chown user.users /usr/share/mime/Trash

does this fix it?

Awesome.

Click on the red monitor (Danger, Will Robinson!) in KDE, type the commands.
Back to Maemo for a check, and Emel, she complains no more.

Thank you, sir.

I maybe just missed a post or something. I apologize if this is a case of RTFM. A bunch of configuration dialogues for KDE programs always go off the screen. Is there a way to set in the xserver preferences or something a tall screen res that we can scroll? I was able to do say a ctrl enter sometimes to dismiss the dialogues but there were always settings that were not accessible because I cannot see them below the screen.

While this has been answered many, many time - you've caught me in a descent mood - so I'll answer it again :p

While there is no way to permanently change the configuration dialogues & forcing the windows to resize only ends up cutting off the most important part of the window (ie: OK Apply Cancel) - you can assign a button to "Move Window" command, which will at least allow you to move the window up so that you can get to the bottom part of the screen.

To assign "Move Window" -> Open Control Center -> Regional & Accessibility -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> scroll down until you find Move Window -> select it -> make a custom shortcut.

Now if you've got an N810 then you have a ton of possibilities on which button or combination of buttons you assign to the action. If you've got a N800 then your choices are much more limited. You might search the forums to see if any N800 users posted successful button assignments if you need help there.:D

Is there anyway to find out what combination of keys are available for shortcut, as almost ALL "CTRL + " has already been used by some program? If the answer is NO, what is the next key combo you would recommand, CTRL+shift+key or CTRL+Fn+key?

By chance, I find out the "Fn" has NOT been used, so that is my "window move" key :)

TIA,

bun

I usually just pick the Key or combination of keys that I want to use. If that shortcut is already in use as another command - KDE will give you an window popup error message and you can decide then if you want to change it or not.

A lot of the keyboard shortcuts are found by going to Control Center -> Regional & Accessibility -> Keyboard shortcuts. There is a long list there.

Also there are shortcuts that can be assigned within most of the KDE apps you would check these individually within each apps settings.

Additionally there is also some shortcuts listed in the Input Actions section of Control Center.

I personally use Shift + Home key (N810) to trigger "Move Window". Not sure how using the Fn key would work because KDE might just think you're wanting to type a number/symbol.

Hope that helps :)
