Xgngeo Hildon, working for os2008

After some messing around with the source some more.
I finally got xgngeo ready for a first release.
This post is intended to be a be a small how-to
for those who I know will have issues getting xgngeo running.

I will cover 2 methods of installation.
1. install via terminal
2. install via Application Manager

Installing via terminal

1. download .deb from the garage.
>>>>>>>>>>> XGngeo <<<<<<<<<<<
Remember the location that you download the deb file to.
/home/user/MyDocs is fine

2. Start up the terminal.
cd into the directory you downloaded the
xgngeo_16-1_armel.deb package to.
If you followed step 1, then you should run the command
>> cd /home/user/MyDocs <<

3. Run >> sudo gainroot << to gain superuser status.

4. Run >> dpkg -i xgngeo_16-1_armel.deb <<
and just wait for installation to complete.

5. After installation is complete you need to run 3 commands in the terminal.
a. >> cd .. <<
b. >> chown user:users .xgngeo
c. >> chown user:users .xgngeo/xgngeo.conf
If you don't run these commands, then saving your choices in xgngeo will not be saved. As soon as I fix this I will make another release.

6. run xgngeo and enjoy.

Installing via Application Manager

1. download .deb from the garage.
>>>>>>>>>>> XGngeo <<<<<<<<<<<
Remember the location that you download the deb file to.
/home/user/MyDocs is fine

2. open File Manager and locate xgngeo_16-1_armel.deb

3. double tap on xgngeo_16-1_armel.deb
Application Manager should start up.

4. Install xgngeo.

5. I'm not sure these commands need to be entered for the application manager install but do so anyways, it won't kill you to do so.
Open the terminal
a. >> cd .. <<
b. >> chown user:users .xgngeo
c. >> chown user:users .xgngeo/xgngeo.conf

6. run xgngeo

Thanks, my little contribution to the community. ;)
hopefully I can get it to where all the steps required to get it running are not needed.
chown such and such.
but till then enjoy.

Can't wait for the onscreen buttons to get fixed.

Just add the required steps to the postinstall script.

The Chown steps are not required anymore.

Thanks to yabbas.

Re: Xgngeo Hildon, working for os2008

you don't select a bios.
Just the directory that its in.
everything is supposed to be greyd out.

The video shows this clearly.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...44773668&hl=en
watch the video.

skip the chown steps of the video.

But if you follow the video tutorial,
You should have it up and running with no problems.

Can you tell me what the answer was? I read through the thread but still don't know where to find the bios.

I have the latest versions of gngeo and xgngeo installed.

Re: Xgngeo Hildon, working for os2008

look for neogeo.zip or neogeo bios.

xgngeo gngeo, is the frontend and emulator name.
will most likely not find the bios under those 2 names.
neogeo.zip should output some good locations.

Need a little help.

As you can see from my screen shot below I only need the Gngeo executable file to load. I have put all the files in a directory called ROM in external card( as suggested in first post). I cannot find a file called gngeo. I have one called gngeo.1 but that does not work. I have successfully loaded the bios and xgngeo and gngeo packages. Can someone please post a zip of of this gngeo file on this thread. The png images in ROM look really cool. I can't wait to get this bad boy running. Nice work bro. I'm using n800 with os2008. I loaded your app through application manager and I have an icon on the extra folder. I loaded gngeo v.7 , xgngeo v.16-2 and the current bios. Am I missing any library's or dependencies? Any advise, tips, suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Dan

Re: Xgngeo Hildon, working for os2008

I replied to a similar post, but it was in the troubleshooting section, and didn't have much activity.

Q: About gngeo. Is there a way to exit playing a game?

On my 770, from command line, I can start a game, and it plays fast and with sound. I was impressed. But I haven't been able to quit gngeo, without hitting the "Home" key, and then the graphics are messed up (video mode) and I have to reboot.

Is it maybe a gngeo version issue, or a config issue?

I do see a .gngeo directory with a file called gngeorc.

That file has a 770 section at the bottom that says:
# p1: zoomout, zoomin, esc, menu, fullscreen, enter, up, down, left, right
#p2: die.
p1key 288,289,27,285,287,13,273,274,276,275
p2key 108,59,111,112,50,52,264,261,260,262

Also, I tried it with my bluetooth keyboard, and the esc key there didn't exit/quit the game either.

I'm planning on trying xgngeo, but with my 770, I'm not sure I have enough memory to add a frontend. :-) :-) I can't even believe it works as well as it does on my 770. :-)

I'm running gngeo 0.7 (according to gngeo -v)

Thanx in advance.
