Re: N800 USB OTG Adapters/Dongles
After reading 27 pages of posts in this thread, I can't believe I am the only sad soul who received an OTG adapter from EPO that seems to be DOA. I have tried a variety of thumb drives, SD card adapters, hubs, and other USB devices, and no joy. I thought that my solder job might have been faulty, but that means I should still be able to use usb-otg-plugin to activate host mode, right? I tried that, and nothing.
Any suggestions (other than sending it back)? |
Re: N800 USB OTG Adapters/Dongles
Update:
I had installed usb-otg-plugin before I received my adapter. When I first received my new adapter from EPO, I did not have it in host mode, but plugging in the adapter did nothing. I tried host mode... Still nothing. Uninstalled usb-otg-plugin. Still nothing. Got frustrated. Drank a beer. Took battery out, put back in. Plugged in OTG adapter with USB drive. IT WORKED! It seems like uninstalling doesn't take the N800 out of host mode. Should have known. Kicked myself. Pinched myself. All is well. (Vote for poetry contest winner?) |
Re: N800 USB OTG Adapters/Dongles
Incidentally, an old Staples 128MB (yes, MB) USB thumb drive does not work.
"Unable to connect, no file system available" No big loss - it was a freebie. I guess Maemo doesn't like the drive, but loves run-on sentences. |
Re: N800 USB OTG Adapters/Dongles
Yup, s/,/;/
But the trouble is probably related to the partitioning; unfortunately, I think some (old, cheap) thumb drives care more about the "drive" contents than they should. (Or expose more internal data than they should, however you look at it.) I've bricked two, one by repartitioning, and one by mke2fs. Oh, well; they were freebies anyway. So I wouldn't try fixing it if the thumb drive is useful to you otherwise. But, if you do:

Re: N800 USB OTG Adapters/Dongles
Just wanted to check in and say thanks to everyone, I've been very busy out and about for the last few weeks and haven't had a lot of time to keep up with posts and things here, but I'm glad to see that any issues that arose seem to have been resolved. Haven't had a chance to play with Diablo yet, but I can't see Nokia having pulled out the USB OTG support, so should be all good, but if somebody could confirm or deny that I'm sure it would help all (if it doesn't work my money would be on Nokia simply leaving the setting to a default of client mode instead of OTG which is easy enough to fix... but logically I don't see any reason that they would have done so...)
(I'm also still working on getting those mic/headphone adapter dongles btw if anyone's wondering, I just haven't had a lot of time in the last few weeks thats all!) Thanks, -Rob |
Re: N800 USB OTG Adapters/Dongles
The problem isn't with Diablo-- I have tried my usb drives with the N810W using Diablo and it works perfectly (other than the pointless error message saying it won't). Works great with N810 on Chinook too. I only have problems with the N800 using Diablo OR Chinook. Plug in otg dongle and usb stick, and no response. But if I understand correctly I need to install drivers, right?
