GUI File manager OS2008

I have searched for file managers for the N800 without much success. What alternatives to the built in file manager are available for OS2008.

Thanks,
lrentz

Emelfm2 ?

http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/emelfm2

I think it is available in the extra repository (even though the install file is missing on the download page)

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

I have quickly compiled "Worker" which is a nice File Manager for X.
http://www.boomerangsworld.de/cms/worker/index?lang=en

This is non-hildonized and no full screen..
Oops , sorry, The file exceeds the attachment limit here so I guess will leave it up to someone to port it properly and put it up on a repo.
If you do want the .deb file let me know, will upload it somewhere.

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

Although Emelfm2 is great, I'd love to see PCManFM ported the tablets.

Edit: I meant ported to hildon, pcmanfm already works with Easy Debian, etc.

Reminds me of Norton Commander/Midnight Commander/Windows Commander/Kommander.. and FTP/FXP clients. IOW: tree view on both sides with sweet keybinds :)

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

emelfm2 have a similar layout, altho using it that way is a pain as the screen is to small to really fit much data on it...

imo, gpe would have been perfect, if one could only adjust the size of the columns, and if it had the ability to show hidden files...

Wow.. this is a GREAT interface for a DESKTOP, nevermind even the maemo platform. Where has this been all along? It's pretty spiffy! I've LOVE to see this on my tablet. :)

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

Seems to require libstartup-notification and fam/gamin... dunno why it isn't using inotify.

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

is a patch for it here:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index...56&atid=801866

and it has experimental support for it listed in configure --help, claimed broken tho, probably what the above patch is supposed to fix.

I've built pcmanfm before (screenies are on this forum...), libstartup code can be commented & gamin was uploaded to -devel by me.

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

Looks like compiled okay.

No need for gamin if inotify works.

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

PCManFM is the file manager used by LXDE; I also agree that a hildonized version would sit nicely in Extras.

Well, inotify is Linux-only, while fam/gamin remains portable (and ought to use inotify on Linux).

yes please, PCmanFM for Maemo!

It crashes on start and I don't have time right now for it. Search works though.

I'm going to try to build this, but: could you please expound on the bold part above? I'm getting stuck at ./configure with errors about missing deps (startup-notification).

I've never built anything before, so consider me a complete newb. If you don't have enough time to answer such simplistic questions, feel free to say "beat it" :D

I could tell you but it's a lot easier to just compile libstartupnotification as it actually compiles now :P

I tried compiling startup-notification (v.9.1), and it seemed to compile OK (./configure, make, make install).

But pcmanfm still complains about it missing...

Any clues?

In a scratchbox:

Code:

apt-get install devscripts
dget -x http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/startup-notification/startup-notification_0.9-1.dsc
cd startupnotification<tab> (something like this)
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
Install debs

You may have forgot to supply "--prefix=/usr" to the configure line on the compile you did.

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

Thanks qwerty, that worked just fine. I compiled it, and it works OK. No crashes to speak of (well, except for the preferences dialog). Looks a little funky, but seems to work!

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

So here's the new question of the hour: any way to get pcmanfm to stop complaining about no XSettings Manager running, and get it to display icons properly?

anything more happening related to getting pcmanfm going on maemo?

Got some time before I start college...

http://qwerty12.qole.org/pcmanfm.png

Will try and finish this one off soon (libhildonmime integration, etc.).

(And, yes, it is utilizing gamin. I could care less about inotify. :))

Stopped it from crashing when opening the preferences dialog by adding a simple g_debug

Re: GUI File manager OS2008

No, sorry, I've been busy. :(

If anyone wants to play with my current source: http://qwerty12.qole.org/pcmanfm-0.5.tar

Only things I've done is to make the Preferences dialog work (by accident); and make it use the HildonWindow, HildonToolbar, HildonMenu widgets.

And, yes, school is indeed starting so my free time... What free time? :)
