N800 - How Big???

Hi forum

Just a quick question - I have version 4.2007-38-2 installed in my N800, what is the largest SD card I can install in EACH slot???

Is it 8Gb or 16gb???

Thanks .

I thought the maximum in each for 0s2007 was 2 GB. The OS2008 on the N800 I believe can handle 8 GB in each. Cheers.

2048GB with SDHC. 4GB with SD.

No, I had my 8 Gbyte SDHC card installed in the N800 when I was still on OS2007, and the whole 8 Gbytes worked fine.

Not to cause any confusion here, they're all "SD" cards, but in particular you need an SDHC (HC = High Capacity) card and compatible SDHC card slot to go over 4 Gbytes. The standard SD format ran out of addressing capacity at 2 Gbytes (strictly speaking), or 4 Gbytes if you pushed the limits as some suppliers did by treating one 16-bit value as an unsigned 64K number instead of a signed 32K number as originally specified.

The N800 comes with two SDHC-compatible card slots, and certainly the last revision of OS2007 supported them - can't say about earlier versions, that's before my time.

I think that firmware ver 4.2007.38-2 is SDHC compatible, so you can support both 8 or 16 gb cards in either slot, but I doubt you will find a 16 gb card on the market just yet.

32gb will be out shortly.
Several players showed off 32gb sdhc cards at CES last week.
I've been using 2 16gb sdhc class 6 cards for the last six months.
Amazing!!! Considering I paid 250 for my n800. Tons of free
software.
Enjoy

I'm pretty sure you can get 32gb cards now. It is technically possible to make 1TB SDHC cards right now, but it would literally cost an arm and a leg.

Bart,

Can you image 2tb on each card and with my USB Host with 4
additional sdhc cards I would have 12tb of class 6 sdhc memory
on a 250 dollar itt.

If someone knows where you can buy 32gb sdhc please link! I've looked high and low, and even though toshiba was suppose to be rolling them out this month my search has been to no avail.

Well - a big thanks to all you guys for the replies. I'm now in a better position to decide what SDHC(!) card to get for my films, pics, sounds..

Thanks again for the full and informative replies ;-)

Yeah, but the battery won't last long enough.

Seems that Windows Media Player 10 is able to see the N800 and I can set it up as a sync device. Will be trying that out tonight and get N800 Video Convert and Nokia Internet Tablet Video Converter to output converted files to my external hard drive and set that as the sync source with the N800's 16GB card as the sync destination.

Once I get my 2nd and 3rd 16GB SDHCs in a couple of days, I will see if I can designate WMP to sync videos to one card and music to another. Then the setup will be complete :)
