If it's an .avi you can try to use NVC directly but I'm not sure how erll it shrinks it. If it's a DVD, then use DVDShrink (don't forget to compress it to 50% or less) -> NVC |
k9copy- another option for Linux users
For linux users out there,
another program I haven't seen mentioned on this thread is k9copy. It is a linix 'dvdshrink'. Basically it's a point and click frontend for dvdauthor and mencoder. One button to convert dvd tracks to *AVI, supports multiple passes... If you're on debian, add- 'deb http://debian-multimedia.org etch main' to /etc/apt/sources.list then go to their website and download their key and install it...(instructions there.) after that do- # apt-get update # apt-get install k9copy for other distros- http://k9copy.sourceforge.net cheers, kernelpanic |

Re: How To: Convert DVD to N800
Hi forum
Well, I've read this entire post and (being a newbie - I'm not making excuses) I got stuck on the NVC bit. I followed the instructions at the top of the post - downloaded 'dvdshrink', downloaded (and extracted) NVC (v.0.8.4.1 beta). I then ran the dvd (unencrypted) through dvd shink - seemed to work, producing VOB, ISO, files. Oh, that took about 90mins. Then (and here's where I'm stuck) I put the VOB files through NVC. Well it thought about it for a while, then 'said' "error, not supported, or not found" to the file I know is there - along with the rest of the VOB files. I left untoched the resolution, frame rate, and the other defaults. Anyone know what's happening??? Thanks. |

Re: How To: Convert DVD to N800
Slight correction to earlier post: The files produced by DVDshrink were:
IFO, BUP, and VOB. Hope that helps. Thanks. |

When you are ready to compress it and save it, click on Backup, on the first tab (Target Device) Select the backup target device as ISO image file, once it is saved, drag that iso file onto the NVC. You might have to this again. Also make sure that you have compressed the movie and deselected unwanted languages/director commentaries as well unwarranted subtitles. |
Re: How To: Convert DVD to N800
Hi,
I can't get the DVD shrink/Nokia Conservtor thing to work. I can produce VOB files (which play on VLC player fine) but when I try to put them into the Nokia convertor it says the file type isn't recognised. So, I tried doing an ISO file- same problem. I've also tried a few avi convertors and they come up with all this codec stuff (which I don't undetstand). I'd appreciate any help, but I'm not very technical! I've been trying to do this for ages and am about to give up. Many thanks David |

Couple questions: what OS are you using? What version of NVC and DVD shrink? |
Re: How To: Convert DVD to N800
