Video out via usb and others

Hello all. I'm new to this community and have read ALOT of posts here in the n800 threads.
The reason why I've read so much is that I'd like to buy one but needed to know the ups,downs,pros-n-cons.
Today I've decided to join for a couple of questions for me to ask as I haven't stumbled upon (I have searched) these questions:

0.I've seen posts about wireing(re-wireing) usb's to accept the standard usb (adaptors) Which when I get the n800 I will be purchasing one from ,I forgot the name, but somone on this site.

1.usb video cards
I see that people have asked about video out on tv displays and all I've seen was people asking back why would they want it. Well what about the usb external video cards to monitor? Anyone think they'd work? I have some examples here:

http://www.usbgear.com/USBG-SVGA2.htm
http://www.everythingusb.com/iogear_...ard_12787.html
http://www.alereon.com

2.all-in-one card readers
I've seen some all in one card readers via usb http://www.usbgadgets.org/entry/mobi...r-by-kingston/
This would be great also if it worked as I have many different cards.Just was wondering if this worked would the n800 read small compact flash mem cards? I have tons of these for pictures and text.

3.storage
Is there an "absolute" list of what dives work and what doesn't on the n800?
How a bout these?V
http://www.usbgadgets.org/entry/tosh...le-hard-drive/
http://www.usbgadgets.org/entry/usb-...tual-notebook/
http://www.usbgeek.com/prod_detail.php?prod_id=0511
I at home have a 160gb iOmega usb hdd,500gb seagate free agent usb drive, and a mad dog dvd rw+-r recorder<I use this as the dvd drive and as a portable hard drive host.Do any of these have issues with the n800? And would it be possible to read dvd's or regular cd's from a usb dvd/cd drive?

4.ir device
I've also read about the remote control thing on here but was a bit confused??
But my question is can you use this nifty device
http://www.usbgeek.com/prod_detail.php?prod_id=0577
to control ir controlled devices such as your tv,dvd,cd,stereo and whatever has ir?

Thanks for your time.:)
I'm so glad I have found a fountain of knowlage for the n800. Even though I see ALOT of flmin and bad critisizm twards newbies and misdirected people that are not as kowlagable as the pro's,I'm glad I stopped by.

2 & 3. The consensus for this to work is a). Does not need an external power device to be operational, and it it does, make sure it draws the power from an AC outlet instead of the N800 b). It has to be formatted to FAT.
4. Check this site for IR remote for the N800 and this.

Not sure, if the devices linked by you are supporte under Linux.

But there is some limited USB -> VGA support for Linux. At least for certain chipsets. I was considering setting up somthing like this for a Linux machine a while ago (not a Nokia IT) but quickly gave up on the topic.

Here some links
http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/AddVGAAdapter
http://www.winischhofer.eu/linuxsisusbvga.shtml
http://ftp.x.org/pub/X11R6.9.0/doc/html/sisusb.4.html

Even if you get this compiled and configured for the N8x0, then a completely different question is, whether the CPU or USB port of the N8x0 can keep up with this.

i think there should be a development of a general USB-in device for the N800 - so it can perform functions such as this (video out), USB host, and possibly 3G and 802.11N support, and maybe physical connectivity to GPS units maybe? (most of Garmin's and Tom-tom's devices do NOT have bluetooth, but DO have USB, in which PC's can control, so maybe the N800 could do it)

Is this development for the next update or further updates to the firmware or an added "program" feature?

"general USB-in device" Does this mean when connecting a regular usb device (if plug-n-play) it will auto play or read the device plugged in? I see this achieved with the 4 and 5 pin on the usb connected together/rigged will allow this to happen.

- does not have to be formatted FAT... ext2 also works for thumbdrives and USB hard drives...

- if a powered hub can provide enough juice for the USB drive (or IDE/SATA adapter), you're good to go!

Both of my N800's flash cards are using ext3 partitions.
