Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Hi there !
I'm the author of MCEGuru. Unfortunately it is only available for Vista MCE right now, cause I actually don't have time to maintain 2 versions :s Do not hesitate to ask if you need more info ! Regards, Thibault |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Could I try it? I have an n800 and a laptop that runs Windows Vista: Home Premium and Ubuntu.

Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Xoubir, I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this application, OMFG !! It works brilliantly, I FINALLY have a reason to keep my NIT and friggin Vista.
I just finished installing and setting it all up and this has got to be one of THE BEST apps I've used on the NIT so far, putting it bluntly, it just WORKS ! :) Right out of the box it does exactly as advertised and what you would want from a touchscreen remote, and best yet, running MCE through my Xbox 360, it friggin works on that too !! :D It controls the 360 and all the controls just like it was going through your PC. Thank you so very much for this great app. If anyone has a Vista box I can't recommend enough this application. |

I,ve been lookin for something like this but hate the use of vista due to high cpu usage and I just plain dont like vista and its incapanilities with most of my hardware that are xp heavy. |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
i would not mind a xp version but i can understand the head aches of keeping up 2 versions.

Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out

I must say I'm surprised that there hasn't been more attention paid to your app here in the forums, in spite of the naturaly anti-pc bias:o In any event, I look forward to tinkering with it, thanks! |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Thanks very much guys for your support, I'm glad those who tried it like it ;)
I'll try to continue updating it on a regular basis ;) If you have feature requests do not hesitate ! Xoubir. |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Is it possible to get it to work with Hamachi? Hamachi creates virtual private LANs over the internet. So even if my computers and n800 are at different WIFI points they can still communicate in a networked liked environment.
How does mceguru currently conduct scanning? Maybe, have it so you could input the IP address (well in this case the Hamachi IP which doesn't change unless you ask it to) to direct mceguru towards Vista's mceguru with the Media Center? |

You're right : It could be very useful to be able to specify the server IP address in the client configuration. Will think about it ;) Thanks, Thibault. |

Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Any more user reviews for this app? I'm contemplating Vista and if this is as good as it looks on youtube then it looks like a must install.

Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Had some problems with the install.
Running Vista MCE SP1 RC3 N800 OS2008 Upon restarting and running MC I get the message that MCEGuru Beta 2 is ready(The file I installed was labelled "mceguru_vista_beta3-2"). With the server running, I start the app on the tablet and I get the message, "Not connected to server". Shortly after this the server crashes. What can I do to provide more detail? Howard |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out

Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
I have a huge problem with mceguru. I install it and now when I start media center, CPU goes to 100% everything almost stop working and even ctrl+alt+dell can't help. I tried to uninstall it but I've got message that some processes like "media aggregator" or something like that should be stopped in order to uninstall and question do I want uninstaller to try to stop them. I clicked "yes" a message that the process is still running appear and uninstall icon disappear from "add/remove programs" and of course the worst thing is that after restarting problem still persists. Could somebody give me a clue how to "rescue" my mediacenter? Thanks in advance

Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
I asked over at the mceforum as well and of course, no answer. The guy that writes this is extremely talented, but it seems he has no time for support. I have had posts back as far as Feb not answered.
Ig i get the answer I will post here. |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
after some trial and error i got mceguru to install. here is the line in the install file you need to edit:
uri = http://www.mceguru.com/repo810/ chinook i added chinook at the end and the app installed. thanks for the hint, faberfox. sumit. |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
I have problem with the server installation. I have Vista Ultimate 32 with SP1 and other updates found in MS update.
The install says: "MCE Guru Server can only be installed on Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate Edition." And so the setup fails. Any ideas what I could do to install? Setup-file is beta3-3. I have installed those DirectX Libraries and rebooted also. |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
I installed the Server component on the Vista machine and then the Client component on the N810 (after changing the repository address as posted above (and repeated below)
Web address : http://www.mceguru.com/repo810/ Distribution : chinook - this line is missing in the install file I guess. Components : user Now the MCEGuru SDL loads up the program - by it never connects to the Vista Media center server in any way. I dont see any connect button either in the settings or anywhere. How do I setup the N810 to connect to the Vista machine running Media center over the Wifi network that I have ? Any settings to be done on the Media center side ? Note : the MCEGuru server on the Vista machine does prompt me that that MCEGuru is started has found media (or something to that effect) |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Hi There,
Very sorry about my silence I am unfortunately quite occupied in my private life right now ;) Thanks a lot for pointing out the bug in the .install file which didn't work anymore on diablo firmware because of the missing distribution name I changed the install file on the beta download website a few minutes ago and tested it on the chinook and on the diablo firmwares : it now works fine :) Thanks again guys ! Xoubir |

Does anyone has the same problem ? perhaps I made a version checking mistake in the install package generation script. I'll try to test it on an updated VistaSP1 system asap. Thanks for the report ! Xoubir |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Oh, and I didn't mention that I have also installed that "Windows_Media_Center_TV_Pack_2008_RTM". Maybe that messes things also.
Maybe I should have installed MCEGuru before those updates. Maybe I'll test that in virtual machine if I have time. |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Xoubir, are you the developer of MCEguru. i was wondering if there was a port for ubuntu yet or how would i go about installing it on ubuntu? if you could email me at gregabetz@yahoo.com that would be amazing

Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Not sure on the rules on posting in old threads, so here goes.
I'm running Windows 7 and I'm pretty certain the media center plug-in part of this will work in the new Windows 7 Media Center. Only problem is it can't be installed on anything other than Windows Vista. Anybody got a fix for avoiding this and forcing it to install? |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
For those running windows 7 I took the version check out of the installer, and now it will install, I have yet to test to see if it works.

Somebody should have the file. Maybe the company who made it. Why wouldn't you keep a copy until you were certain it worked reliably (I have VMCE Ultimate, which the standard install rejects). The people maintining the MCEGuru website have just blown off my support email. Wouldn't you keep/archive all released versions of the software? Alternatively, is there a registry key that the install looks for to verify compatibility? If so, could I temporarily mod the reg. to install successfully? |
Re: New Beta 3 MCEGURU out
Hello bigdawgte, I managed to strip the areas in the MCEGuru MSI DataBase that checks the windows version. Here's what happens, it will install successfully, but have really limited control of the windows 7 Media center.
It'll say they MCEGuru is ready, & then kick a .Net error on the MCPC end. It has a very detailed directx error. With the right dev tools I think some people could make it work. But it was a complete waste of time for me since I am not very strong @ programming. BTW I used a program called ORCA to open & Mod the MSI database. I hope this helps & I hope you have better luck... |
