Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

Hi.

I am a happy user of the N800 with the upgrade os2008.

I have installed powerlaunch 0.7 normally, everything works very well but the problem comes when I load video or graphical intense application (games, canola, youtube)..
Dont turn off screen! I don't know the reason.. but i fix this problem when return at the original power menu, or reinstall powerlaunch.

The problem it happens only with Powerlaunch

I need use softpower or screen off for to save battery/Standby n800

PD

I really don't understand what you're saying here, but I'm going to guess you (or anyone else looking at this thread) have the same problem I did. When you long-hold the power button, powerlaunch goes to softpoweroff, but the screen immediately comes back on.

This problem seems to be caused by the fact that the power button is still held down when it gets to softpoweroff, and it interprets that as a new button press to wake it out of softpoweroff.

I solved it by putting a delay in, so you will have released the button before it gets to softpoweroff.

In /etc/powerlaunch/common.conf, change it to:
PHP Code:

powerkey_long timer_set powerkey_long2 1.0
powerkey_long2
softpoweroff

Thanks for the tip.Setting the delay to 1.5 prevents unwanted returns from softpoweroff if you hold the power button a tad too long.

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

Hello, I'm the guy who wrote powerlaunch and I know exactly the problem you're having. Basically, if any program requests a "display blank pause" then the screen will never be blanked ever again because the blank pause is not reset. This was fixed about a month ago in svn but I haven't had the time to make another complete release. Here's a temporary fix. Try replacing the existing /usr/sbin/powered with this version: https://garage.maemo.org/frs/download.php/3369/powered

Thanks. Just in case someone just replaces the file and reboots (like me): do not forget to set the permissions of the new file after replacing the old one, or else it won't run and you end up with no shutdown menu:
Code:

sudo gainroot
chmod 731 /usr/sbin/powered

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

I was having exactly the same problem after running MPlayer.
Your temporary fix worked for me, but it does seem to be a little time-delayed.
Thank you, Austin!

Hi Austin,
I'm starting to suffer from a very similar problem as before, but am currently unsure which app may be interfering this time - i'll post if i can figure out which is causing it.

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

Are you saying the screen off is time-delayed? Is it more than with the default mce running? According to the specs of osso_display_blanking_pause(), programs must call it once every 60 seconds to keep the screen on. So if you start and stop mplayer, it could take up to 60 seconds for the screen to turn off, regardless of what you've set your display settings to. I did a quick test with both mce and powered and they appear to have similar times from stopping mplayer to screen off.

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

I'll clarify - from playing a video in Mplayer, stop the video and exit, then attempt to lock display and keys through the power menu. The result is that the display and keys lock, but the screen stays on - You seem to have hit the nail on the head with your test.

Since I've mainly been playing with the tablet after I close mplayer for a bit anyway I haven't noticed the problem very often.

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

The spec for the "display blank pause" api call says that it prevents the display from blanking for 1 minute. So if mplayer makes this call right before you close the program (mplayer calls this once a minute, so it depends on timing), then the display won't be blanked for 1 minute. Your issue of it not turning off when you request for it can be fixed. Here's a new version of powered:
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/download.php/3405/powered

The only change is that a softpoweroff request overrides any request to not blank the display. This means that it's now possible to turn off the screen even if mplayer is running, but that the screen should still not be turned off automatically due to idleness.

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

I've been wrestling with getting Powerlaunch to work for a couple of weeks. I think the problems are 1. I can't find a working libglade2, and 2. powered seems to be broken.

Anyone know where to get libglade2?

austin 2008-03-18 17:01

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

You can download libglade2 directly from http://repository.maemo.org/pool/chi...ibg/libglade2/ or add the repository "http://repositiory.maemo.org/ chinook free". By "powered seems to be broken", what is broken?

since instaling the most recent version...8.3 my screen no longer dimms...or goes to standby....how can i correct this

It wasn't until after I realized that powerlaunch was the problem that I had posted the same issue over here, so I'd like to know the answer too :). TX

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

Can you be more specific about the problem? The problem of joepagiii sounds like it never dims. This shouldn't happen. Check that in fact powered is running with "ps -ef | grep powered" and run "powerline softpoweroff" to check that in fact powerlaunch can turn off the display. The issue posted by grog may be different as it sounds like the display does turn off just not properly when on charger.

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

For Grog, could the "Display stays lit:" option be set to "When charging"? (In Control panel -> Display, that is.)

joepagiii 2008-05-08 00:32

Re: Powerlaunch don't Turn off screen

i checked and unchecked all the settings in the control panel....as for the soft poweroff...no joy....results of "ps -ef | grep powered 807 root 3172> /usr/sbin/powered sw and 3419 user 1892 sw grep powered

Sorry, I should have specified as I did in the other thread. I have that option selected. It works as expected when I do not have powerlaunch installed, it does not when I do.

I'll be filing a bug report as soon as I can make time to scoot back to the powerlaunch site. TX

With powerlaunch installed the screen first dims then goes blank when charging, just like it does when not plugged in.

Sorry I haven't had time to go file a bug report. HTH
