Every user that reported problems with scroll had an old version of python-efl_utils. Could you please run this command on the terminal:

$> dpkg -l | grep efl

and report the version of efl_utils ? It should be 0.1.2+cvs20071220-maemo1

Hi Bitgueist, yes.. after you done that the keyboard on the canola side you also have the paste option.

So hold on the finger on the link, copy link location.. .and when on canola press the menu button (side by side with enter) and choose paste.

Is that what you mean?

heya. i thought id start by thanking marcelo and all his team for the great work and effort put into canola. canola is an amazing piece of software and has always been my #1 music player...till a few days ago :(

since i updated to beta2 and beta3, i (canola) seems to have lost the ability to play music and pictures.
i tried uninstalling then reinstalling canola but no good. im using the lastest firmware on the n800. i did restart the n800 after the installs.
i can click on a song but it doesnt load... heres what i get when i open canola from the terminal

Amir : try using the fix, and installing again? seems that you ghave some problems with the media component... old efl_utils could be the problem.

So please install te canola2-fix from the application installer... reboot and install again! I hope this will solve all your issues, if not , we will not rest until solves that for you!

All,

I've been having some major problems with the podcast feature in Canola2 beta 3.

As a good open source user, I filed a bug report already. It can be seen here.

The problem comes down to this: not all podcast feeds work.

I can install them (that is, they show up in the list of available podcasts).

However, when I actually try to list the individual episodes in each podcast, they fail...

As an example, consider the following two podcasts feeds (hosted on my server):

The one that works is located at: http://www.dubfire.net/feeds/tal.xml
The one that fails is located at: http://www.dubfire.net/feeds/tal-no-reruns.xml

Both are installable, but when I try to view the episodes available in the second feed, the Canola wheel just spins forever. With the first feed, the wheels spins for a second or two, and then a list of available mp3s is shown.

Can someone please look into this for me?

Hi Genome,

We will look into this, but in a quick glance, it seems that the failing one has not an attributed that maybe needed to canola to work correctly, and that is really important to any podcast application : published DATE, why? because then the application knows what's newer... what's old.. and how to present the data more than just based on position int he feed.

this is my first look opinion, but we will investigate further.

But like in webbrowses.. you need to be patient, if the bug is on canola we will fix asap, but we cannot predict if in case the error is because the podcast producer is not following the standard, of course we will try to support even those with errors, but it will only be when users complain =) like you..

Then we do what we can to fix!

hi marcelo,
i tried what u recomended ( install and run the fix then reboot and the reinstall canola then reboot) but unfortunatly i still cant play music. canola finds the music but when i ask it to play, it just tries to load and stays like that...
any ideas? btw heres the log

Yeah what I suspected your DBUS communication with Atabake is failing severely, I will pass this to morpheuz, he may ask you a couple of more things.. but I think we will be able to find the source of problem. Something is wrong with Dbus usage / or Dbus itself on your device.. and of others...

I'm running beta3 on an N810 w/ the latest OS available from Nokia. Beta 2 worked OK, but beta3 doesn't ... First, it often sits at the "Checking media library ..." screen for a long time. Not always, though! Also, it now refuses to play videos or audio files. Once I drill down to and click on the filename in Canola, it just hangs. I saw on this thread that I should run from the terminal, so I did that: "canola -v" prints quite a bit of information, and I don't know how to log the terminal output. Here's the last line, though, when it's refusing to open a video/audio file:

There was a message on this forum from a few years ago that suggested using apt-get to remove canola, but I don't have access to root. Any suggestions? Beta3 does show photos OK. Thanks!

Canola rocks! I have only had my tablet for a couple of days and this is by far my favorite app. The only feedback I have is that it seems strange to me to have my podcasts mixed in with my music when I select all songs.

Hi brian,

Not sure if it will works for you, but you probably have some old components in the playback level. So we need information to debug, and seems that most of users are not able to provide them (not their fault) because needs to manipulate in command line.

If you can run with -vv (yes 2 v's) that you will have a better message (best if you run) open canola and then try playing on media. I think you can copy it and send using the email on the tablet (open gmail o browser or even this thread and copy here )
Select the test by dragging the stylus.. and hold down it to copy.

We are already looking after this... the fix is on application manager: canola2-fix

You have that because your top level folder is "watching" the whole card. If you go to settings, media library, audio folder, touch the eye to remove the "V", touch the card name to enter the card folders, and check everything but the podcast folder helps on this.

We wll improve this also in future releases...

I have a small suggestion. How about copying internet-radio list into the Canola from media player or Shoutcast? I think it helds most of the internet stations and it will be easy to just select them instead of typing URLs.

Suggestions:
I agree with above, Better internet radio options.
Merge Artists along with merge albums
Last.fm as previously stated. and maybe the ability to listen to my last.fm station

Hi guys,

The internet suggestion we are planning and checking if has some legal issues or if we can add in the final version a "suggestion" wizard based on your profile (you choose 3 interests and it adds the best content from the web in that matters )

This integration from media player is also written down, time has prevented us, as we set this as lower priority (first get the basics righ) = ) we are almost there, and after 1.0 in end of march (the plan at least) we will still improve so keep suggestions coming! if fit's our visions... we will gladly implment =)

Okay, first day trying to use Canola Beta 3, on a N800 using latest 2008 OS.

I'm just trying to use the internet radio feature (never even knew such a thing existed, that's how dumb I am).

So I went to http://shoutcast.com/ like it says in the Canola documentation, but if I click on the "tune in" button, it opens up with Mplayer.

I tried typing "shoutcast.com" for the url address under internet radio in Canola and my Nokia crashed hard (locked up) so then I needed to shut off the power.

I would like to add some college internet radio sites but I don't know how to find the addresses for them using the shoutcast site that was provided.

Been looking on these boards and through google but it's such a mess to understand for me.

Can I get a little help on this, even if it's just a web link to help this newbie out? I really don't want to make any Canola Crapola jokes and create any type of unnecessary weirdness between the developers and myself here. :)

fixed the installation error of canola thru the application manager using canola cleanup.Then reinstalled beta3 thru app manager. now I cant play my audio selection - media scanner goes on in endless loop and no song plays.

ok, now try this:

$> rm /home/user/.canola/prefs/player

This should erase your player's preferences (volume, repeat/shuffle on/off), creating the default file again. It looks like that this file got corrupted somehow. By the way, which one is your device, n800 or n810 ?

I've been having this problem with Canola from the first install. Canola scans and finds my directories with no problem at all; and it shows me my photos, no problem. But it will not play .mp3 files in the music app, nor will it play .mp4 videos in the video player. They are all playable in the stock media player. All are in folders on my internal memory card, which is an 8G SDHC. They simply sit there loading forever. :confused:

I've a 1G SD card in the external slot, would they play from there, perhaps?

I have been having the same problem - photos show, but the music does not play - the scanner icon (rotating arrow) keeps scanning, but music does not play at all.

So I did the Canola-cleanup again... I had done canola cleanup once before, before I switched from Beta 2 to Beta3.

This time however after cleanup - I rebooted, and then installed Canola Beta 3 again (from Application manager). And now Canola works - i.e. the music plays.

I still need to reinstall the Canola Tuning of course.
Even the podcasts are working again - had to re-download all the podcasts again though.

Brashley, I think arthur posted here how to get the debug from "atabake" which is the component responsible for the media playback handling to (mplayer or maemo media player) can you do that? :

Menu > Utilities > X Terminal

$> atabake stop
$> atabake start -vvvvvv --logfile=log.txt
$> atabake

It should fail at this point as you related. Now, put an MMC or SD
card on the device and:

$> cp log.txt /media/mmc1

Then you just have to email us the file log.txt

Only started using Canola this week ever. I'm really liking it with a few caveats.
Specifically I can't get 2 of my podcasts to work:

Other than that, just looking forward to hopeful future easier/more support for adding audio/video/photo podcasts, internet radio (got mine working, but it was more work/odd than other clients) and a2dp support(seems like Nokia should have that done...). I wouldn't mind a sleep timer too... (:

BTW, I tried installing Kagu several times and only got it to work once by removing ALL of my music and video and e-mail files(so there were only a couple demo songs on my n800). And after each install/uninstall more of my app memory is missing... So I'm rating Canola WAAY ahead of Kagu! (:

Hmm...try just:

$> atabake

anyway, it looks like that somehow atabake was not installed on your system for some reason.....Maybe you need to use canola-fix and then install canola again to try to correct this problem. Weird.
