Restoring N800 backup on N810? Good/Bad idea?
I'm about to get N810 soon and wondering if restoring a OS2008 backup made with my previous N800 is a good or bad idea?
Anybody did this and what was your "mileage"? |
Re: Restoring N800 backup on N810? Good/Bad idea?
can't speak for n800 to n810, but when I flashed my 800 to 2008 it restored the 2007 backup to the new 2008 system without a problem.
try it. the worst that can happen is you have to reflash the 810. |
Re: Restoring N800 backup on N810? Good/Bad idea?
It should work OK - the 800 and 810 are nearly the same device (remember when people were just reflashing the 810's OS straight onto the 800?)

Do it, the devices are the same.

Thanks for your replies, but nobody has real experience?
My worry is that while "almost" identical, the N800 and N810 do have differences, such as: - light sensor - built in GPS - HW keyboard I'm pretty sure there are some system files that are different or settings files have different settings. For example, if N800 backup was restored on N810, it may disable HW keyboard? You're correct that worst that can happen is a need to reflash the OS... which should not take more than 5 minutes. |

Re: Restoring N800 backup on N810? Good/Bad idea?
Even restoring the N800 on the N800 had one disadvantage when switching to OS2008 -- I no longer get the automatic spelling feature that was on the N800 before I upgraded -- you know, the thing that helped me type in sudo gainroot after I had done it a few times...

EDIT: After reading the bug mentioned above carefully, it describes issues happening if N810 backup was restored on N800... so the jury may still be out? |

No, I don't think there will be any trouble restoring an N810 backup to an N800. Quote:
