Re: eCoach
My intension are to put most of the development efforts to Qt version but GTK+ version will remain in the stable repository as long as Qt version is on the same level.
Qt is more future proof and i dont want to implement new features for 2 versions... |
Re: eCoach
IMO then keep same name. Adding QT in the name just makes it harder to read. It gives information to some users, but is it after all so relevant?

Re: eCoach
Hi,
I just tested the HeiaHeia upload with eCoach and it's great feature! However the limitation for naming the activities isn't so great. There should be some more choices or at least the Notes field, if it is possible to submit also that field to HeiaHeia. Quote:
(running, jogging, roller skiing, duathlon, rowing, kayaking, open canoeing, riding, agility, walking the dog, nordic walking, walking, orienteering, hiking, golf, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, snowshoe walking, tour skating, cycling, mountain biking, road cycling, roller skating) Maybe another 25 more could be possible, but the are either exotic, redundant or have high risk of exposing the phone to water :) The bottom line is that I don't believe all sports and "sports" in HeiaHeia are needed to be in eCoach. Also, just four sports is not enough. |
Re: eCoach
Thank you for making this great app!
I would also like to have more sports available in eCoach. Best case would be that in options I could choose from long list what sports I want to see in eCoach sport list. Or other possibility could be that there would be current 4 sports and under those there could be button: "Show more sports". |
Re: eCoach
Strange thing happened the other day. I was on a long walk, and at some point while messing around with my phone, I accidentally clicked the x (the close program button) on the eCoach window. Luckily a prompt came up and asked if I wanted to stop the exercise or not. I clicked no, but the program closed down anyway! :D
After that, eCoach wouldn't start up again until I rebooted the phone. And after rebooting, the walk I recorded was nowhere to be found. eCoach has been very stable and this is the only time something like this happened. Also the crash was partially due to my own error, so I'm not saying it's anything that needs fixing. However, since the gpx files are quite small and simple, maybe eCoach could write them to disk every now and then (doesn't have to be often), so that if a crash occurs and/or a reboot is needed, the file wouldn't be completely lost. (I'd have to start a new recording in any case, but I think the gpx files would be easy to combine into one recording in a text editor, so that's not a problem.) |

There was feature for storing gpx automatically every now and then but it had some issues so it was removed, i guess i have to fix it and put it on again. :) |
Re: eCoach
I posted a different request (error data in the XML file) on another thread, but then remembered another wish that's probably a bit harder to implement.
Right now, eCoach's settings are very context-dependent and thus hard to discover. For example, you can only change map sources and add notes if you're in the live map; device settings are only available from the main screen; etc. It would be nice if these things weren't mode-dependent; in particular, I'd like to be able to change map sources when reviewing a log. But even if you stopped working on it yesterday, eCoach is an awesome app! Thanks so much for writing it! |

Re: eCoach
As you may know lately I have been writing eCoach in Qt. I have made good progress and I have basic functionality already working. While creating Qt eCoach I have also implemented portrait mode support which required quite lot of work and UI re-design and the work is not yet fully completed.
While targeting mainly for Maemo I also experimented how big task it was to make it compile and run on S60 devices also. At the end it was quite straight forward to make it run on S60 (Thanx to great Nokia Qt SDK and Qt Mobility API) but UI and look and feel needs a lot of work as the resolution on S60 devices is so crap compared to Maemo :) And it didnt help that I have eCoach graphics as bitmap and not in vector format. Here are few proof-of-concept pictures Qt eCoach running on N900 and N97 mini http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/2171...2058896978.jpg http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/2171...f6947b112d.jpg http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/2171...a4f1dba8e5.jpg back to coding ... --> :) |

Also, HeiaHeia says the map feature is coming soon, which is good news. :) And yeah, porting to S60 is going to be a pain if you plan to take into account all the different resolutions, controls, etc. :F |
Re: eCoach
Just a quick question, where in e-coach do I put in the settings for my Heiaheia account. I keep getting an 'uploading failed' error message and I suspect it is because I do not have any details entered.
I went through the authorisation process, so it is not that.... Thx |

Re: eCoach
So far heiaheia export has been working great for me, with one small exception, and I'm not sure if it's a problem with ecoach or heiaheia. After a run ecoach can display the average & maximum speed, but it seems this information doesn't get sent to heiaheia along with the training log. Heiaheia always displays 0.0 for both speed fields.
|
Re: eCoach
@adrianmilev @nexus_7 @edgemon Which version of eCoach you are using? If upload fails you can try to reset upload settings and also remove existing upload rights from the settings on HeiaHeia website. After that try to upload again and go trough authorization again.
Let me know how it goes. |

Version 1.64
I did what we said but the problem remains. |

Sports Tracker shop start to sell Polar bluetooth heart rate transmitter with 70EUR in few weeks without any phones bundled. Will it work with eCoach?

I have Polar's bluetooth heart rate transmitter and eCoach in N900. Polar BT is not working with eCoach. You can pair it, but heart rate stays in "Wait..." state. Tried again just with the latest eCoach version. Br. Mikko Ps. If some traces etc. would help you eCoach developers in getting the support, I can help. |

Re: eCoach
I tried ecoach (V.1.64) today for the first time for my cycle to work.
I love the App and a bit gutted it didn't seem to work right. When I arrived at my destination and stopped recording, my calander displayed the correct duration time of 29 minutes but my gpx file showed it stopped recording after 13 minutes and the distance also only shows for the first 13 minutes of my journey. Does anyone know where I went wrong? Regards EDIT: Just tried it again, going home this time. Worked a charm!! |
Re: eCoach
It would be great if eCoach could also support this heart rate transmitter:
http://www.mobimotion.com/index.php?id=brustgurt&L=1 I can deliver the protocol specification. (reverse engineered. I was able to read out the heart rate values from within my own test software.) |
Re: eCoach
great app, since I bought new bike I started to use it each time..
I have two questions: 1)is it possible to add more activities in accord with heiaheia.com ? e.g. I'm missing mountain biking 2)the track profile graph (speed, alt) it would be nice to have zoom feature (graphic buttons, or volume keys on device) what do you think..? |
Re: eCoach
Thanks for the great program, but I have some things I want to bring up:
It took me quite long (two lost excersises...) to realize that it apparently won't save anything without pushing the rec-button again after the excersise. And from that I think that apparently it also looses everythin if the battery gets empty during the excersise. I think I read that saving the data in some intervals is under construction, so thats good. As it is now, there is too much possibilities to end the workout in the way that nothing gets saved as there is no warnings or anything. That is just a minor thing, but at least for me it wasn't really straightforward and that usually is bad usability design. It should be somehow better thought out. Also the REC starting the excersise is a bit odd, for me at least. Something like "Start excersising" (or Start, because of the space) would be much better. |
Re: eCoach
There is new eCoach version (1.65) in extras-testing. New version has more sports defined and it fixes the bug where default sport type or heartrate range was not saved.
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...l/ecoach/1.65/ Install, test, vote :) |

I dont think that zooming the graph is not very easy to hack in to the current implementation :) |
Re: eCoach
I would support Polar iWL heartrate monitor if someone releases the specification for the bluetooth protocol they use. Currently i can parse heart rate from that data but there are still many things unclear, like does the belt need some kind of wakeup signal every now and then and when connecting the belt with device etc.
I have asked SportsTracker/Polar to open the protocol but no answer yet. I am not sure if its even legal to use their belt with other applications than SportsTracker especially if we have to reverse engineer their protocol... |
Re: eCoach
Can someone explain me hgow to use training diary?? I'm not able to find this function.
Thank u. |

I was just searching for "Polar ecoach" here and tried to work up the courage (and balls) to ask if it was in the roadmap for ecoach to get support at all, for Polars watches (like S7XX and so on) through the IR on the N900? *runs and hides screaming thanks for a nice application so far1!!* |

Just received the Polar WL+ Bluetooth in the mail today and spent the last few hours on studying the protocol. For some reason the belt stops transmitting after 17-20 data points. Here's the hexdump of one data set: Code:
fe 08 f7 01 f1 00 00 5dThe second byte seems to define what data the line contains. The lines with fe 08 contain heart rate data: the sixth byte is most likely the heart rate. The fourth byte is a counter (but why is it missing on line 16?). BTW, I don't see why it wouldn't be legal. Polar also sells the Bluetooth heart rate monitor as an OEM product. --Martin |

I forgot to ask if you could add the opencyclemap as a map source. I think it should be easy if there is openstreetmap already available. I prefer the cycle to the street as there is possible to read the terrain (topo). |
Re: eCoach
Upgraded to 1.65 and working well. WOuld love to see the record button colour change also is there any chance of using the led to blink whilst recording mode is on?
Also, as per my PM to the developer, are any bike users wanting an auto start stop function so we can get riding avaerage as well as journey average. Use this application everyday on my ride two and from work, just need to save up for an HR belt :( |
Re: eCoach
Hi.
Feature request: Is possible to make scale/ruler on the map screen in one of next versions of eCoach? |
Re: eCoach
Hi, firstly what a great app. Well done and thank you.
Now for my question and suggestions. I train mostly using heart rate and like most sportsmen work in various HR zones (recovery, aerobic, anaerobic etc...) before I go out and purchase a compatible HR transmitter belt, does ecoach display full LIVE HR data including a way of showing what target zone your in? i.e will my current HR and percentage of Max be displayed on the screen and does this display actively show if I'm above or below the targeted zone?? Does it offer any audible or visual warning when you go outside the targeted zone like most HR monitors do? I'm pretty sure ecoach probably doesn't do these things. If so is there any plans In the future to add such functionality?? Whilst I'm at it I might as well add my wish list, so here goes: 1. All live data dispayed on the map screen, maybe in a small box. Items such as 'Current speed' and 'Avg speed' 'Live HR data and zones' ' Exercise time' etc, It's good to have the data post ride but having it easily readable in one display during is even better. 2. The ability to warn you visually and audibly when you’re working below or above a target HR zone. Maybe your current HR and HR Percentage of max could be displayed and be in green or red to indicate if your in your targeted zone. It would also be good if this could be displayed at all times on the main map display. 3. Most HR and cycle computers now have an auto-pause feature so when you stop or reduce you speed to a pre-determined speed the exercise timer stops. Without this when you stop at traffic the average speed and HR get all messed up. Obviously you can manually pause but that’s very difficult and dangerous whilst negotiating traffic. 4.The ability to pre-plan a route and upload using a gpx file. There's some great websites that enable you to map a route and create a gpx ( http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx ). It would be great to do this and transfer to your n900. Not turn-by-turn but still a good navigation tool. I'm sure the more I use it the more I'll think of. For now it's a great app, but if only.... Cheers, Andy. |

Re: eCoach
Thanks for the great app. Works very good, especially in conjunction with heiaheia.com. (Only: Max and average speed should also be submitted to the site.)
How is porting to Qt going? Any experiences with using the Nokia Qt SDK you want to share? |

Sorry - I've been on holiday... I have gone through this - deleted authorisation from my heiaheia account, then gone through the authorisation process again, and I see it appear under my settings page Reset my n900 ecoach settings and then tried to upload - no joy, just get the upload failed message. Where can I get the logs from to see what is happening? Im on the latest version of ecoach.. |
