Re: Newest OS2008 updates here!

I updated the download links to the 1st post in this thread.

Anyone tried the "Internat tablet update wizard" (windows)? Maybe the file load balancing (as what was claimed to be in place) works only when using that tool?

Re: Newest OS2008 updates here!

It went quick enough for me as a direct download (I go both RX-34 and RX-44), but I guess I got in early thanks to this thread :-)

Re: Newest OS2008 updates here!

Just finished flashing OS2008HE to the 770... waiting for the changelog and first feedback to flash the latest update to the N800 (still on 2007), then if all goes well to the N810. It's going to be a flashy week :-)

It works .... It fixes the boot problem.

That's good news for those having that issue!

Just one more time, since it has been asked many times what's new in this firmware: This release fixes the power on (boot) problem only. If you are not having this issue you may as well keep using the 50-2 firmware.

Any news when the next performance and feature update will be due?

Re: Newest OS2008 updates here!

- just downloaded the n800 os2008 update...

- however, could someone post the content of the MD5SUMs file?

(stupid, fscking Nokia server is now unresponsive; dunno why the idiots there couldn't just post the MD5SUMs in plain view)

- even worse, after attempting the download i get a Web page stating:

"Your acceptance has expired!"

- so now i have to go back again and enter the @#$!@#$% MAC address YET AGAIN JUST TO GET A STUPID FSCKING MD5SUM!!!

Thanks Mara - one less device to flash :-)

And if you can use linux flasher and don't want to reinstall everything you can try to flash bootloader only if it helps with the issue. It is unlikely the fix is in rootfs.
Code:

flasher-3.0 -u -F ....bin
flasher-3.0 -x xloader.bin-RX-44\:.... -2 2nd.bin-RX-44\:.... -s secondary.bin-RX-44\:... -f -R

the names of bootloader parts are quite long and specific to hardware build number, type cat /proc/component_version on device and select correct ones that include your device name (RX-??) and hw-build number (not sure if there are more of them, hopefully not).

EDIT: warning, if done incorrectly (like mixing options -x -2 -s with not matching file types - xloader, 2nd, secondary ) this may brick your device completely.

Where are these packages?
nolo 1.1.10-2
nolo 1.1.11-1

These should be the ones that have changed.

Yes, that's the bootloader (NOkia LOader ?). Not sure if you need to reflash all three parts (xloader, 2nd, secondary) but the safest is perhaps to flash all three (in one go, definitely not separately with reboots between ;-) so you won't mix older and newer ones together. IMO they depend on each other so it may be pretty dangerous to mix different versions.

I notice that the download speed from maemo.org is slow (much slower than it was earlier this morning).
Thus I have decided to help a bit and I have posted the N810 firmware update RX-44_2008SE_2.2007.51-3_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin online at this link:

A few hours ago I got it in ~ 40mn@60KB/s mean speed.

Now this link should be put on the first page...
As well as MD5sums.

I can upload the n800 firmware somewhere in 4h or so.. I have no way to host such a big file.

I tried to dl the upgrade to my tablet or my harddrive from Nokia, they all time out and failed. I finally got it from this thread. But I ended up not using it. It turned out if you use the tablet update wizard, it downloaded a lot faster and finished in 6 min! Does Nokia treated update wizard differently? Apparantly it does! And in other thread, it does fixed the power on problem.

That's what I speculated earlier in this thread... that only the wizard update method does have proper load balancing between file servers. The direct link to tablets-dev server is just a single server, I think?

On other note: I still don't see announcement in maemo.org or on Nokia web site if you click link what is the latest OS revision for N810... How many days they come behind?

The GPS fix has so far been community-based. I do not know if/when it will make it into formal code.

I see with the new update that the Sound and Display status bar icons have an extra dropdown item to get to the settings.

Anyone else found any other changes?

(I installed on a N800 using the NIT software update wizard)

Has there been any release notes yet?

The europe.nokia.com page states:

"OS2008 v. 2.2007.51-3
This software release includes improved stability.
We recommend everyone to upgrade to the latest release."

when you click on "check to see latest version" on the N800 support page

myk 2008-02-20 03:46

Re: Newest OS2008 updates here!

Release notes WOULD be nice.
The file name suggests this is from week 51 or 2007, so two months of testing. It would be nice to think there was more than just a power-on fix, with so many customers suffering frustration these two months.

Anyone else had trouble with the apps restore? After flashing, it offered to restore my backup from the SD card, which is good. Then it offered
to re-install my apps, as listed in the backup. I got a few apps back,
then errors, and eventually it quit completely.
Now I am manually adding them, and OH MY GOD ITS TEDIOUS. All those clicks and delays, you might as well be running Windows.
Time to just install ssh, and run apt-get, I think.
Argh! No ssh in the available list. Off to google ...

beware!

Same as I was thinking... and I just flashed like a week ago too. Upgrading is becoming tedious as all get out... and I don't fully trust the backup method either after the 50-2 update issues.

I have uploaded a torrent to N800 firmware to The Pirate Bay here

Thanks for helping seed it.

I have checked the MD5 hash and its the same as previously mentioned :-

Just pointing out, when your getting firmware from torrents and other areas. You should try to match the MD5 hash (though I think it can be spoofed). But still, an extra precaution.

Re: Newest OS2008 updates here!

According to this http://maemo.org/news/announcements/..._released.html it's just a fix for the boot problem, nothing else changed, no need to upgrade if no booting problems were experienced

adcockm 2008-02-21 21:52

Re: Newest OS2008 updates here!

I suppose if I don't know what the "boot problem" was, then I am not experiencing it on my n810 and don't need to reflash... I'm just curious though -- what was the problem?
