Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Could you please test '-ao sdl' in mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25 setting various audio delay values (using -delay option)? The actual value of audio delay that is needed for proper lipsync for various types of audio (different sampling rate, mono/stereo) is interesting.

I strongly suspect that we can't rely on audio delay reported by esd at all. The reason why previous build worked, may be because several bugs negated each other :)

If we assume that the audio delay is constant, we just need to measure this constant.

Right now you can try editing '/home/user/.mplayer/config' file and add the following lines:
ao=sdl
delay=0.2

Actual delay value should be probably somewhere in the range between 0.10 and 0.30, please report if you get some good results.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Mr.Serge (or anyone who knows), how can i edit the config file?

I cannot find it with the default file manager and i used another one i downloaded from maemo.org

I wanted to add a subfont option, so i replaced the config file with a new one i made in my PC (as i didn't know how to edit the original)

Now, the subfont option works great, but i have one question:

What other options do you have in mplayer's original config file? (so i can put them in mine too)

Can you post it somewhere?

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

There are two mplayer config files, one is '/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf' - it contains default settings. The other is '/home/user/.mplayer/config' - it contains user settings. User settings have higher priority and can override default settings.

Editing '/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf' is not needed, moreover it is not recommended as you will get problems with mplayer upgrades.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Are there any options (by you) in the default config file?

I am asking cause i have overwritten it and i don't know if i am missing something.

Also, where are the hot keys? There are changes from the original mplayer's hot keys

for example:

space is not pause, pause=center button of d-pad

volume=zoom key

where can i find the new hot keys map?

Thanks in advance. Keep up the great work

you can always reinstall mplayer and restore its default settings

These changes are done in the sources ('input/input.c'), but you can override them using 'input.conf' file.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

mplayer (1.0rc1-maemo.26) has been uploaded to garage extras-devel repository.
Quote:

mplayer (1.0rc1-maemo.26) unstable; urgency=low

* Default audio output changed to SDL again for OS2008
* Disabled libmpeg2, ffmpeg decoder is now faster for MPEG2
* Fixed aspect ratio problems when using -wid option and playing
video in windowed mode (patch from MoRpHeUz)
* Reuse existing 'vo_x11_putkey' function in '-vo nokia770' video driver,
it should fix keyboard hotkeys problem on N810.
* '-vo nokia770' driver renamed to '-vo omapfb'
* Some more ARM VFP optimizations
Most of the problems reported in this thread have been (hopefully) resolved. Feedback is very much welcome :)

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Hi Serge,

i skipped .25 because i have a N810. This versions seems to work pretty good. No problems with keyboard so far. Audio is just like in .24 (from what i have tested so far). Speed seems faster (personal impression). Thank you for your continuing effort in maintaining mplayer.
Ah yes two questions...Is there an overview for the keyboard functions somewhere. I always try to remember but most often just press all keys to find a certain function :)
Can you change aspect / ratio during playback ?

Thank's MiBi

Umm, is there a backwards compatibility vo nokia770? :)

EDIT: yes, there is - either nokia770 points to omapfb or doesn't find nokia770 and defaults to omapfb. The outcome is the same :)

The aspect ratio is still wrong for all my videos in Canola, I would imagine thats a canola related issue ? or is this the issue the patch from MoRpHeUz was trying to correct?

@RipTorn
it's Canola related, as is the fact that N810 Hardware keyboard functions are not working from Canola...

Aaaaa! downloaded HQ-audio youtube videos are now totally unplayable :(
Example: http://youtube.com/watch?v=oTEDvlw5QZY

.25 played it perfectly. .26 plays like heavy CPU ovverloaded :(

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Just wanted to say that .26 plays all of my files with correct lipsynch, however the audio when starting and after seeking makes a rapid stutter sound (3 - 6 stutters) before playing normally. This isn't a fatal problem like the broken sync of .25, but it is a bit annoying.

Is there some sort of memory leak or something in this? I play a video and stop and turn it off halfway through but when I check my tablet a few hours later, the battery is completely drained as if I have been using it the whole time. And it only happens when I use mplayer.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

i've just compiled for linux (my laptop) a svn snapshot of mplayer.
"dev-SVN-r26264-4.1.3 (C) 2000-2008"

This one plays perfectly flv files (a/v sync and seek)

I've noticed that ver 25 and 26 for maemo are using a mplayer version that reports in the copyright 2000-2006.
Is it using a older version?

I'm just searching for a cause why it has some problems sametime to play youtube video on my IT.

Hope this help, the alternative will be to build a stripped version mplayer that will only know how to play flv files.

Cheers
Mihai

I have to bump this question, because I am really at a loss. I cant see anyway to control a file once it is playing within mplayer.
Is it possible?

mplayer uses the hardware "d-pad" left and right directional keys to jump back and forward. The center key pauses.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Hello!

I saw some little speed improvements with the last update. No sound problems in general. Thanks again: excellent work!

One question... I want to use the lowres=1 option. How is that possible without editing the config file?

(Because I don't want lowres=1 to be always enabled and the wide parameter found in mplayer documentation, is not very useful as it covers only the x axis. Except if there is a way to add y axis as well)

I tried running mplayer from xterm but it produces an error.

What exactly should i write? eg. mplayer - lavdopts lowres=1 media/mmc/file

Is there a way for an integration in the UI a method of easily adding parameters?

Also, is it possible to boost sound to levels after 100% Other Mplayer flavors have software sound boost but i don't know if it can be done with our hardware.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Hi everyone and thanks for your feedback. I just want to remind the purpose of this thread - get a new version of mplayer uploaded to garage extras repository. Version .24 was slow on n810 as -vo nokia770 (now omapfb) video output method was not used for it. Right now we only focus on regressions (the cases when a previous release worked better), and if we have no important regression, version .26 can be uploaded to garage extras repository. Please check your reports again and try to confirm if they are regressions or not. Thanks for the cooperation.

Bugs and feature requests that are not regressions should be reported at mplayer garage project page.

PS. I'm typing this message on my Nokia 770 from a hotel room. I can't actively participate in the discussions and answer all the questions now. MPlayer development should revert back to 'normal' in about a week, stay tuned.

vicki 2008-03-25 08:29

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Well, no regressions for me. The last version seems to be the best. However, i haven't yet tested flv files.

Try to install it from xterm using dpkg ('dpkg -i mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.26.n8x0_armel.deb ') and check error messages. Have you edited any mplayer configuration files in /etc/* by the way?

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

Italodance, if you don't already have it installed - you'll need an app called "becomeroot". You can find information about it here: http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/archive/index.php?t-12215.html

Once you have that installed you'll open xterm and type: sudo gainroot then press enter.

Now you have superuser privelges and can execute the command that Serge gave you without errors.

Also, I don't believe that you need to edit any config files - Serge was just asking if you had made any changes because incorrect changes might cause problems.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.25

I rule out any changes being made to etc because he doesn't know how to become root.

If you do make changes, dpkg asks if you want to replace your changed file. But you cannot do this in application manager.

We really need a replacement.

How exactly is it better? Please explain. Everything should be quite the opposite, but who can know.

The sooner we get some .24 replacement out to garage extras repository, the better. Just because we can focus on solving flv audio seek issues and proper DVB-H playback support then (upgrade to 1.0rc2 or some patches from more recent upstream SVN may be required).

Older builds had a bug in .mp4 container processing. Newer builds are better, but still don't have all the needed/possible optimizations.

Sure, it just needs to be optimized (easier said than done as usual) and everything will be fine :)

To sum it up: both .25 and .26 are better than .24 on .mp4 files, that's good :) Also both .25 and .26 still have some problems with 'crashing' (whatever it means). This bug needs to be reported to mplayer garage tracker with mplayer output log and a sample of .mp4 file causing problems. I'll have a look at it when working on the next builds.

Sure, good ideas and patches are always welcome. Also keep in mind, that I'm mostly interested in DIVX/XVID stuff and it always had first priority for me. I just can't test and maintain all the possible codecs or protocols, so the feedback about something else not working or missing is very important. Please report all these issues at mplayer garage project trackers:https://garage.maemo.org/projects/mplayer/

Well, probably HE needs it own separate mplayer releases. But I can't maintain HE version as I have OS2006 installed on my 770. I really use the device every day and can't afford to break it with the unstable experimental stuff :) OS2006 is still the best for mplayer on 770. It works quite fast, especially with the fanoush's kernel, which has a fix for YUV420 color format (YUV420 needs to be enabled by using '- vo omapfb:yuv420=1' option).

I can't reproduce the problem with any of my flac files. So I need a problematic flac file for testing this problem (if it is not corrupted or broken in some other way of course). This bug can't be fixed unless I manage to reproduce it on my device. With no feedback for a long time, the bugreport is going to be closed as nonreproducible. Nothing personal, this is how software development generally works.
