They are doing reverse engineering to Microsoft protocol and will provide an open MAPI for developers to integrate any mail app to that enviroment. They didn't reach the final stage yet but when it is done, is suppossed that a third party is thinking on develop a maemo flavor. I did lost the URL but I will search it again. I'll post it later.

Reverse engineering may not be required soon... It sounds like MS is going to be a little more open with regards to interop going forward.

They will release some breadcrumbs from their code. I'm not so optimist but may be in some way and in specific moment, Openchange project may use it "opened" software source code, all depends on agreements and licences; because you can open your code for gain interoperatibility but based in other source not Microsoft one... this mean that I can't use it in any open project, because of licencing stuff.

Any way... we must wait and see...

Please read this: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/p...y/default.mspx

Nothing about opening the Microsoft sources, just interoperability information not more...

Hey, just because they did it on purpose doesn't mean it wasn't a bit of a mistake. :) I know I've done tons of things quite deliberately which in retrospect turned out to be rather bad ideas. My mohawk at age 15 comes to mind for instance...

I actually personally don't really miss the PIM-stuff, but a lot of people would've been thrilled to see some basic syncing-capabilities built in from the start I think. It's -the- most commonly requested function on these boards from what I can see.
