Re: Canola shows no songs
@gardnj : Well, the "main" scanner problems seems to be fixed, as people with serious problem are now finding all their music.
So let's go to the boring questions :) a. did you mark (a V under the eye, just press it ) the eyes on the settings -> media library -> audio - (choose the folders / cards you want to scan ) by pressing the button? b. If you did so, can you try disabling the top level cards, and enabling only one folder inside (for example one album) to see if it appears? If b becomes true, them something is still breaking the scanner in your case, you can try helping us by trying isolating the problematic file, then we will be able to ask you the file and fix if this is really a bug. Markku : we are running to recompile it, we will post here once it's compiled. Marcelo |

Re: Canola shows no songs
I am having the same problem of it not recognizing my m4a files. I have read this thread. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the cleanup app. Frankly, I am just keeping my head above water trying to understand a lot of what this thread says.
What device do you have? N800 What firmware do you use ? OS2008 What version of Canola? Canola2 - 2.0.0~beta8-maemo1 Do you have Canola-Cleanup ? Yes I have checked ("v") the root folder as well as specific folders and it shows no music. I have run the canola -vv and I will post it. Code:
bMenuModelFolder(name='My music', parent=True, children=False) ... |
Re: Canola shows no songs
@Shoe : do the default media player see your files perfectly (this is just ot make sure the files are ok on the platform) ?
If so can you send them to me ? I need to check it, but anyways..we have a new version of the scanner for beta9. So don't worry.. if is not showing it's not "Canola" is the scanner that canola uses, we will keep testing... but we need your files.. We had cases of users with files that helped us to debug and also users with files that were really corrupted, then anything worked correctly. please send some of the files to handful AT gmail DOT com Marcelo |
Re: Canola shows no songs
Yup, the default and others (Kagu, MediaBox, etc) all saw them. I don't know if this matters, but I pulled ripped them from iTunes.
It did manage to find pictures, just not the music. I have about 2gigs of songs on the N800 so I will just send you a sampling. |
Re: Canola shows no songs
I got your files, We will take a look, but if I'm not mistaken, We fixed that in the Scanner already... but with your files we can double test it!

Re: Canola shows no songs
Thanks Marcelo.
I loaded an MP3 in and it found it no problem. I put one of my M4A's right beside it and it didn't find it. |
Re: Canola shows no songs
Yeah, each file format needs a different plugin in the scanner. Sometimes it's needed to check with multiple versions and also look for problems that break the scanner plugin.
So let's see what we can do about this m4a files. Marcelo |
Re: Canola shows no songs
I am also having this same problem on my N810 running beta8 and OS2008. Here is what I can report.
All of the songs on my internal card (/media/mmc2) are properly indexed by Canola. They are all MP3s. At one point I had a FLAC on there to see if it would index it correctly, and it did. I am pretty certain this was in a previous version of Canola The songs on the external card (/media/mmc1) are a mixture of MP3 and FLAC. At first glance it appeared that none of them were being indexed but then I realized that some of the folders were being indexed because I had identical artists on both cards. To illustrate this, here is what my collection looks like: /media/mmc2/audio: (all MP3) Depeche Mode/ Falco/ Goldfrapp/ Morcheeba/ Rush/ /media/mmc1/audio: Depeche Mode/ (FLAC) Falco/ (MP3) Madreblu/ (FLAC) R.E.M./ (MP3) Radiohead/ (FLAC) The Alan Parsons Project/ (FLAC) In this example all the files from the internal card (mmc2) are indexed properly, and the Falco folders from the external card are indexed as well presumably because they were previously indexed. However, there are no files underneath the folders. Because the Falco was indexed, I would assume that the Depeche Mode from the external card would be indexed as well, but this is not the case. I am guessing it is because they are all FLAC files. I know for a fact that in a previous version I could play FLACs... I hope this sheds some light on the problem. |
