Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
http://www.macworld.co.uk/ipod-itune...S&NewsID=20634
Apple CEO Steve Jobs went on record to warn that the iPhone needs a Flash Player that works like it does on a computer, warning that the Flash Lite Player Adobe develops for mobile phones isn't sufficiently advanced for an iPhone. I'm wondering exactly what he means by that. I haven't run into many sites with Flash that I can't use on the N800. I block them now for the sake of my battery. |
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
been a long time since this happened, but for once Jobs is right (OMG, I think I see a Flying Pig...and is that an ice cube in you-know-where? :p ) ...Adobe has really dropped the ball since aquiring Flash into their fold. It has become too big to be transparent, just like Adobe Reader.

EDIT: Adobe has published a feature comparison of several versions of Flash Lite, Flash SDK, and Flash Player. **Warning: PDF link** |
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
Thanks. I didn't realize we were running full flash.

Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
Yea there needs to be something in between. It really cripples my poor tablet when I get to a flash heavy site (aka designed poorly). Its sad that we rely on flash, but thankfully the mobile devices in 2008 seem to be getting the processors necessary to play with this bloatware.

Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
yeah It's hard talking my clients down from "I want animations and text flying here there and everywhere."
And this helps your customers how? I build your site, customers can buy from their phones. I build your site like you 'want' and customers can only buy from their Dual Core Intel machines at work. client: "oh" |
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
meh, i would rather see flash dropped fully and a w3c standard format for media files set.
|
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
Lol, who knows... maybe silverlight is going to be the answer. w3c doesn't have an alternative to flash.
|
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
oh yes, lets replace one proprietary system for another. that will be perfect...
|
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
well, not replace, compete...
|
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
it does not matter, its the users of the web that loose either way...
|
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
I'm happy having the full version of flash and the option to turn it off. Might bog down my N810, but at least it's usable and works.

Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
At least our NiTs use Flash. I pity the iPhone owners who think they run Flash when they are really running Flash Lite (which lacks a number of features that Flash offers)
I wonder if this implies that the NiT uses more advanced/powerful hardware... |
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
I use flashblock and just hit the play button. And I'm really glad it is full flash - I do some screencasts and other non-youtube video and it all works.
(As a comparison, VideoLan on my not too slow Ubuntu laptop will pixelate some flash media at times saying it isn't fast enough, but the engine isn't optimized, while the flash is just as good on my tablet or laptop -a 640x480 animation). But I thought the iPhone ran at 600Mhz while the Nokia is at 400, so why would an iPhone use the Lite version? |
Re: Steve Jobs on Mobile Flash
i dont think it use any version right now...
btw, while i have flashblock installed, i dont like that it download flash stuff in the background, even if the playback itself have been halted... |
