Yup, the 4-in-1 stylus rocks on n810. Got mine today and I gotta say that its quite nice compared to the default one. Also it was hella cheaper, 2,5 € vs. 19,90 € the default from Germany (the link is in this thread)..

The only 4 in 1 stylus I see is the one from dealextreme
and it definitely will NOT fit the holder on my N810.

Does the stylus from the n800 match the n810?

I can not believe that Nokia does not sell spare parts for portable add-in accessories! This will be the last Nokia I ever buy until my problem of obtaining a spare stylus is resolved. Goodbye Nokia!

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

I lost mine a few weeks ago, but then I rarely used it since most of the time I use a plastic tipped mechanical pencil (Sumo Grip 0.9 mm is what I prefer). The shape of the pencil is more comfortable and after almost a year (also have an N800), there are no scratch marks.
Now if I could find something useful to do with the space left empty by the missing stylus, spear lead storage? toothpick dispenser?

Well you can always get rid of the default shirt-holder which is too tight for bending, then just get a new one from any generic pencil while testing that it fits it. Then just slide the stylus in the N810 holder.

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

I managed to find a company in the Netherlands that appears to have a pack of 3 N810 styles pens. If you browse to http://www.telecomforever.nl/ and search for "n810", you'll find a bunch of N810 accessories, including the 3-pack stylus package.

Unfortunately they only sell to distributors. Swell. I just sent an email to them asking if they have any resellers within the US that I could purchase that from. Hopefully I'll get an answer from them. If I do, I'll post that information here for anyone else that's also looking for replacements.

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

I have finally come to a moment of illumination (loud applause). Although it's a shame that Nokia can't come up with replacement styluses for its customers -- and I've been reading complaints to that effect for a year and a half -- in point of fact, the Nokia tablet stylus is too short for optimum writing efficiency. So it should only be used as an emergency stylus.

Perhaps I'll go out and buy a suitably sized stylus. It won't fit in my N800, but it will be more comfortable and I'll probably be able to buy a replacement if need be.

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

I don't have any problems with the nokia n810 stylus, other than not having them anymore. Since I use my tablet a LOT, and mostly while not at home it's important to use that stylus since it fits in the device (meaning I don't have to carry it separately from the tablet).

geneven 2008-06-25 04:10

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

Try using that kwikscript program for awhile and your fingers start to tell you the stylus is too short, assuming you have hands the size of mine, anyway.

I too am down to the backup stylus that came in the box. I am promising myself that I am going to make really sure I put it back in the slot. That will last about two more months maybe.

So, just for fun I emailed Nokia to see what they said.....

The only question I have is why don't they know where I can buy them and why I have to look for them....

Nokia's Reply:

Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center.

We understand your inquiry in regards to obtaining a replacement stylus for your Nokia N810 Internet Tablet.

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

I've emailed numerous resellers within the Netherlands that have a replacement stylus for the n810 in packs of three on their website, but either they only sell to resellers or don't answer email asking if they'll ship to the US.

I've also been essentially battling with Nokia customer service over email going back and forth about this. They say Nokia doesn't sell them, but it's clear they do, just THAT person is unaware of it.

I've asked them time and time again for two things 1) the name of ANY retailer within the US that has the ability to order parts from them and 2) the part number. Each time, the representative comes up with a different reason not to answer the question or rephrase that Nokia simply doesn't sell them.

I've never seen a customer support group so unwilling to lift a finger to help. Do they really think they're doing a good job at maintaining customer loyalty if they can't even provide replacement 2 cent stylus for purchase to a customer that shelled out $400 for their product?

I've basically decided I'm just going to keep pestering them until they get annoyed enough and hopefully just send me the name of a retailer or better yet, just drop one in an envelope and send it to me.

Once I have one, I'll probably have to fabricate a duplicate since they're being such a "stick in the mud" on making them available.

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

Anyone know the name of the VP in charge of customer support for Nokia USA.

A few polite but clearly upset letters from customers/group members addressed directly to him. Would have some effect. Usually secretaries/PA that open such letters respond to multiple letters complaining about the same problem. Where as the customer no service folks on the end of the phone never even pass the complaints on.

This is the approach Clark Howard (Radio consumer advocate) always suggests for such customer service issues.

geneven 2008-07-03 07:03

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

If the VP in charge of customer support isn't aware of this problem after more than a year and a half's steady complaints on this issue, someone could go through all threads mentioning "stylus" and select the ones that discuss this issue and send them to him. I'm pretty sure there are more than a hundred but less than 500 complaints just on this site.

Nokia doesn't care about its customers, this issue alone makes it obvious. It would have cost them virtually nothing to solve this problem, yet they are not interested.

gary201 2008-07-03 14:55

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

After speaking on the phone (yet again) with Nokia customer service and continue attempts at escalating the issue, they continue to claim that Nokia does not sell parts for any of their devices to end users. Further, they couldn't even confirm that they sell parts to distributors or resellers. Huh? Who are they fooling. After continuing to apply some pressure, they finally agreed that it (might) be possible that Nokia sold parts somewhere in the world, but wouldn't go any further than that. OMG!

I finally think I managed to get at least a postal address out of them to a location where they (claim) deals with customer problems. The postal address they gave me was: Nokia, 4630 Woodland Corp. Blvd, Suite 100, Tampa FL 33614.

The site "http://www.tessco.com" appears to sell every internal part to an N810 individually, including the stylus for $4.60 each, but there's a catch --you have to buy $125 worth. So I was basically ready to DO that, then turn around and sell all but one or two at cost in order to get a replacement stylus or two. But I can't. It turns out they only sell to retailers. Great. Guess it's time for a letter writing campaign to that postal address to attempt to describe my level of dissatisfaction with Nokia and their customer service. For the life of me though, I can't imagine how they think that not providing replacement parts for their customers devices promotes any type of customer loyalty.

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

Keep in mind that that stylus is probably produced for Nokia in some (non-Nokia owned) Chinese factory, who have the molds; presence of more styli just like it does not indicate that Nokia sells it...

Not saying whether they should or shouldn't make them available, but the assumption that Nokia does sell them is not really valid.

geneven 2008-07-03 15:09

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

The question is whether Nokia can ask that Chinese factory to manufacture a few thousand more styluses and offer them for sale for a reasonable price (or simply mail them at no charge on request). My bet is that Nokia has enough clout to accomplish this. It just doesn't care.

That's a legitimate address, apparently for a "Nokia Markets" location. It seems to handle, well, marketing. [1] [2] There's a Nokia call center right next door. (A map, just because I like the directions.)

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

I followed the link to "http://www.nokia.com/A4126577" to see the Nokia corporate office locations and browsed around. Apparently Nokia has two "flagship" stores, one in Chicago and one in New York City. So I called the one in NY City and described what I was looking for. The Nokia store doesn't have them for sale. After with the really nice lady there, she said I could drive by and she'd give me one. Apparently their stores can order extras for the store, but they can't sell them. OMG! How insanely lame is that!

The obvious trouble here is that I don't live in NYC. She referred me to another NYC reseller that she said does have the ability to order parts through their distributor (who in turn can purchase parts directly from Nokia). After calling them, they didn't have any but said they would check with their distributor, but at the end of the call I was left with a very low confidence level that I would ever hear back from them.

Just for kicks, I thought I'd call their Chicago store and see if what they say is consistent. It turns out that they too can order replacements for use within the store, but can't sell them because what they get isn't a resale "package". I also learned that the flagship stores cannot do "mail order" business; they can only sell to people walking in through the door. I described that there were several others on ITT that were also trying to locate replacements, and that there were sites on the net that either won't ship to the US or sell bulk quantities only to distributors. Apparently he too is an N810 owner and really seemed to comprehend the problem.

I was told that he would bring this problem to the store manager and/or try to find out just how a consumer would acquire a replacement stylus.

I'm going to wait and see where this goes, but nevertheless this is all good information that will make it into the letter(s) I'll be sending to Nokia's corporate offices.

BREAKING NEWS.... The company that the NYC Nokia flagship store gave me the phone number to (also located in NYC), just called me back. They can order N810 replacement stylus pointers in packs of 3. The cost is $14.99 (plus tax and shipping).

The company is Jacks Place, phone# 212-486-7090. A quick Google search of the phone number on the net shows their address to be 235 E 51st St, New York, NY 10022.

So, if you need replacement parts for your Nokia N810, especially the stylus, this appears to be the place.

They're putting my order in and will contact me to arrange for shipping and paying when it arrives.

Dude you are a super star

EDIT:

Contacted the company. They are very helpful. Great customer service.

I ordered 2 packs at the $14.99 as quoted here. They quoted 3-5 day shipping at $10.

They also asked where I had found out about them. So they are likly to be at least looking in on ITT.

Gary201 I cant thank you enough for your work on tracking these guys down. Well done.

I have quoted your post in my first post. So in the future when folks search for Stylus info they will find the answer and question at the top of the tread.

I have been using a YAFA pen I got from frys for $7.99

http://www.yafa.com/yafapen/Griplink.html

I like it a lot. It is a simple 2 function pen. Ball pen and Stylus. about 3.5 inches long. Nice grip and looks sorta stylish. I have 2 of them. So will continue to use them.

But I still feel the need to keep a real Nokia Stylus in the device. The stylus is the main back up. And as I loose them and the multi function pens a lot. Having a standard sylus in the device means I always have one if needed.

Just to update everyone my styli arrived yesterday. 8 days from order. via Fed Ex.

Pretty much exactly as i would expect. 6 styli in a single press seal plastic bag. Excessively well packed in a large box full of shredded news print.

The invoice quoted at $5 per stylus plus 10 bucks shipping and tax.

I am very happy.

Try phoning them. But I think the odds are a very likly yes. From what I can tell that is the sort of business they run. May have to order from Nokia and then ship to you though.

I'm very happy that I was able to find a store in the US that could order parts from Nokia. I cannot adequately express my disappointment w/Nokia customer service. I went round a round w/them about trying to buy a replacement stylus, and in the end they told me they don't sell parts. In fact they could neither confirm or deny that that they even sold parts to anyone, including resellers. Nokia really does need to wake up and recognize that their customer service leaves much to be desired.

Agreed.

I had to send my N95 in for a very minor repair the other week.

While I have no complaints about the repair process itself.

The whole process of contacting nokia finding out what needed to happen seems so unfocused on the customer.

The fault was minor the volume control on the side would only go up. Micro switch was broken.

First time I tried I was calling on the cell phone. As I have no land lines. They told me they could not even give me details of returning the phone until I gave them the serial number. They needed to prove it was a US unit and covered by NokiaUSA. And I would have to turn the phone off and open the battery compartment to read that.

Ok that was a pain. Having waited on hold for about 10mins on a cell phone (i don't use it as a phone much so only have a 300 min plan unlimited data). but not unreasonable.

So I end the call open the phone the text is just to small for my eyes so spend a few days thinking I need to get a magnifieing glass or something. No hurry.

I then think. There must be a way of getting the phone to tell me. So search online.

Yep very easy just dial *#06# and the number pops up.

OK so why did there customer service not tell me. This is a symbian thing not N95 specific every one who calls with phone issues would be helped by that little bit of info.

Never mind though so I call in again. armed with the details. They take all the details down. then tell me an email will arrive giving me instructions on how to send the phone in.

Cool I think so wait for an email with my RMA number etc.

It takes a few hours to arrive. That surprised me I assumed it would be almost instant but no worries.

The email arrives with very few details just a web address. No RMA number nothing.

The web site is basically asking for all the stuff I had to give the CSR on the phone. OK so what was the point of the darn phone call. Why did you have to confirm it was a US unit to just send me to a web site that asks me to enter the serial number and do it all a freaking gain. You could have just given me that in the first place over the darn phone.

So I had to go through the whole process on the site having wasted 2+ days messing with usless phone calls.

This just points to the whole fact that NokiaUSA at least has no concept on how to help customers. They waste there money and time and worse my time on stupid procedure that helps no one.

But lets be honest as a company. Nokia dose not sell many unlocked phones in the US. As such there customers are not you and me but AT&T + T-Mobile. Both these companies normally take over on the customer management side of warranted repair.

And it shows that Nokia just has no idea how to work with customers. At least in the US.

Would anyone be willing to order 3 packs for me (9 of the damn little things) I can pay via paypal. I am in Australia and I am having no luck finding spare styli. I have this nasty habit of chewing on my stylus right now my 810 stylus is stuck half in the device i have managed to chew most of the end off so it doesn't hold it out of the device.

I know it comes with a spare and you don't even want to know the state of that.

If anyone has come across a place to get replacements in Australia let me know as Nokia doesn't have a clue.

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

I went and filed a BBB complaint against Nokia US in FLA. It is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous and inexcusable that you can't get a replacement for a stylus for this. I think even some states may have laws that a manufacturer needs to provide replacement parts for a certain number of years for products. Anyway, they agreed to send me a replacement as a "one time courtesy" I told them they need to kick it upstairs that the company should sell them, period, to customers. Well, it arrived yesterday and THEY SENT ME THE WRONG ONE! The one they sent is too wide. So I called ECR and notified the BBB again, we'll see what happens. I think people have to make a HUGE stink about this to get the clowns to comply with their customers. They have few of them as it is on this product, so they should make them happy

andrewfblack 2008-08-22 13:37

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

Replacement parts yes so if your Nokia broke you could get a part for it but a Stylus is consider an accessory so there is nothing legally you can do. The BBB for the most part is a joke, Nokia will send you a one time replacement but that’s about it.

I have considered starting to make some replacements I have made similar things out of silicone molds and plastic before. They would be the same just without the Nokia indent on them. Plus they will not have the texture they have now they would be smoother like a DS stylus but they would be the same shape and fit the Tablet. I could make them in just about any color also. I still have both of my styluses for my N810 but I am going to order the silicon for the molds next Thursday when I get paid again. I’ll make some prototypes and post some photos when I got them done. If it goes well and people want some for N800 I will need to get a stylus from one of those to make a mold since I hear they are a little different.

davidsco27 2008-08-22 13:41

Re: Lost N810 Stylus

I consider this a part, not an accessory. It comes with it, it's virtually essential to it's use. An accessory would be something not necessary that you buy afterwards. I agree, for the most part, with your assessment of the BBB, however, they are helping here, and it pays to make the most stink on this as possible. I can tell you from YEARS of experience, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and the louder the squeak, the more it's heard. Good looking out on your plan to make molds. If they work out, let us know.

You actually can buy a replacement stylus for your Nokia N810. I bought a pack of 3 of them from a business called "Jacks Place" in NYC. Google for the place, or search the forums here where this was solved a couple months ago.
