Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
Sorry about this - I have another question (and I re-read all 20 pages of this thread, to make sure it hadn't been answered!)
Is it possible to edit/rename a saved video file name and it's associated text info file? I've tried navigating to the saved folder with filemanager and renaming the video, then opening the info file with the Notes app to edit the video description. Although I've saved the changes, when I open mYTube and go to Saved videos, the video title is changed to "default" and the info file text is copied over from another video:confused: I don't understand where I'm going wrong. Also, is there anyway to reorganise/redorder/group the saved videos, or are they saved/displayed in the order they were downloaded? Any help much appreciated. Thanks. |
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
not yet,
the new version is almost ready. new features: +tags (complete) +kinetic scroll (complete) +caching - not default saving (complete) +sort by name/data (in progress) |
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
nice new features.
Sonny is so happy with mytube (I'm just a bit scared that so many people make their own thomas train movies....) |
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
And why do so many of these Thomas the Tank Engine fanfic people not understand how to focus!?

Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
It's possible to download the higher quality youtube videos instead of the standard quality ones with mYTube? I just searched the forums for the "&fmt=" and couldn't find anything.
Thanks |

Thanks, that helped a lot, english it's not my native language, so I miss the obvious answer sometimes.

Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
i would never believed that a kinetic scroll would require so much tweaking to have it working properly. And this is actually less work , 'cause is the widget used in kagu ...
New release is still delayed until I'm satisfied with UI responsivity (although it's 99,9% functional complete). |

Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
will do... I'm currently stuck at work (where there is no WiFi) for another hour and a half, so it'll be a bit before I can actually install the new .deb and try it out.

Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
okay, so I made it home. :)
I installed the update from the extras-devel repository, and tried out mytube -- 1) it doesn't seem to want to download (and/or play) any new videos. I was able to successfully play existing videos that I had saved from youtube in the past. when you click [Play] (or [Download]), the little spinning cursor appears as normal, then the percentage seems to increase for a few minutes, then it just stops and acts as though nothing had happened. The file wasn't downloaded, and you are still presented with the options of Play or Download (and Erase is grayed out). I don't know if this will help you find out what's borked... if you need me to run something different, or what-have-you, just let me know, and I'd be happy to follow the directions... :) |
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
I had the same problems with the latest version. Then I remembered that I earlier did an uninstall of Canola using Canola Tuning. That resulted in the deletion of mplayer. After reinstalling mplayer, mytube now works.
|
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
I had the same problem too, but solved it copying the youtube-dl-x from brontide to /usr/bin and chmod +x it, it works now. There was some error when run from the terminal, but I forgot to which it was, related to youtube-dl...
It works now for me at least. ;) |
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
Hey... New version will not delete downloaded videos -- seems like a blocker to me :)
|
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
Try reinstalling mplayer.

Deleting video works now, thanks!

Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
I can't go on the storage settings (my saved videos are on my external sd card), the console shows that hildon is not imported in lgc/conf.py
Other than that, it seems to work great, nice job. |

Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
Ok, found that the error with youtube-dl-x was because I'm using brontide's youtube-dl-x for higher quality youtube videos, I'm using the -x option on mYTube and that was causing the errors.

Apologies for overposting when I should have looked for a thread that could have helped me. Basically, I've combined a couple of issues as if they were linked to the same problem, but I've solved one of the issues, and I'm still looking for a possible answer to the other. As far as the problem with not being able to download in order to play a youtube file; well, it turns out the reason it wouldn't play is because I had run out of space on the internal memory due to lots of youtube downloads and it could no longer buffer the file, so after deleting some files and giving back some space, the program now works. In other words 'mea culpa'. I would still like, if possible, any suggestion on the parameters required to scale video to cover the full nokia screen even if they were originally designed for youtube videos or how to access the config file in mplayer so I can set a universal scaling size so that all videos are played at a certain scale size. Is this possible or am I biting off more than I can chew. Thanks LTM ..... just wanted to add a followup to one of my issues. I know that the author of mytube is working on a cache cleaner, but it turns out I ran out of space because I didn't know where all my lost space went to and it was due to the invisible cache that mytube uses when just watching a youtube video ( not saving it) and it doesn't show up in the mytube storage folder. Only downloaded videos that are saved show up as a file, but the cache is invisible until you take a look to see how much space the storage folder is taking up. Once I deleted the mytube folder, even though nothing was visible using the built in file manager and gpe file manager, I gained back my 250mb's of internal memory. My point is if you've been using mytube a lot, watching videos, but not saving them and see a depletion of your internal memory or external memory and can't figure out where it went to, the temporary fix of deleting the mytube cache storage folder will give you back a lot of your missing space. It was the reason I ran out of memory and why the program wouldn't run in the first place. |
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
Thanks for the update. I'm afraid that I am *not* a fan of the newly implemented kinetic scrolling. I find it very hard on the eyes when trying to locate an item in the list of saved videos. Any possibility of giving us the option in a preferences menu to choose between old-school scroll bar and kinetic scrolling?
|
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
I generally like kinetic scrolling, but I also don't like the way kinetic scrolling has been implemented in MyTube.. I prefer kinetic scrolling at stop at the end of the list. The never-ending wrap-around kinetic scrolling makes it very, very difficult to find something on a page or to sometimes know that you've hit bottom despite the little bar. I'd suggest that the list be made longer (say 30 entries per screen) with kinetic scrolling that has a definite top and bottom and doesn't wrap back around, and if scrollbars become optional and put back in, a much shorter (say 10 entries per screen) with scrollbars? It would be even better if these were variables that a user could choose in a preference menu. ALL features are good features as long as they're optional.

you can however try to set in preferences->kinetic->max speed = 0. this way you can scroll without kinetic (drag anywhere on the list). ...do others have this problem? -Mihai |

Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
Is Mytube still working for everyone? I can't get any search results, results from "most viewed" etc., or see any of my local files. I'm not sure how that happened, but I just un-and re-installed and it still doesn't work. :|

However, you can make it 30 entries long right now: Preferences -> More... -> Misc (tab) -> Entries Per Page |
Re: Youtube browser - mYTube - released
Hello. I just want to say that mYTube is an excellent application, and is one of the main used of my N800 currently. I have a question concerning the latest build of mplayer (maemo.29 which is in extras). I know this really isn't a mYTube question, but is there any advantage to using this new compile, versus maemo.24 (which you currently recommend)? When I tried version 29 with mytube, there seemed to be major sync problems. Maybe there is a command line switch that could be used in ver 29 to get it to play correctly?
