I am positive about the price. I can't say how beyond the e-mailed I received.

If the website doesn't update call 1-888-665-4228 select the sales option and ask for Jackie.

@ Grog - No word on Cananada pricing.

Holy crap...that's a significant drop. N800 is poised for ebay!

Are you sure it was a legitimate email? :)

I find a $190 price drop so soon rather hard to believe.

Of course I hope it's true!

Good, I hope we gain a whole lot of new users and converts to Maemo. I think that will make the development of better more reliable software more likely sooner. Thanks.

That would be a very aggressive price drop. Much more in line with their value! The N810 for $479 was brutal.

- so why would Nokia have a 'special' deal only via 888 while other retailers both brick-and-mortar and on-line have the same units at a much higher cost?

(although by all indications, the 888 number is indeed, at Nokia USA)

[sigh] do i have to pick up the phone and call?

I got the impression that it would also be on their web store.

Sure, call 'em. Ask them what time they're going to change the web store price while you're at it :)

To rescue me from going crazy with regret, of course! I'd just plonked down a few hundred dollars for an N800 because it's cheaper (now have to wait for it to come in...), and then this happens! If it was a complete permanent price drop across North America (granted, I'm in Canada) at every sales outlet, I would be very bothered right now. I, for one, am relieved that it is not so I can return to a state of blissful ignorance as to the true cost of these things.

Re: N810 for $289.99 and N800 for $239.99

Alright I called them and spoke with Adrian. First he gave me the price of $289.99, but then when I gave him my zip code he said that my price has changed to $404.99 because I live in California. I asked him "which regions would qualify for the $289.99 price?" He then put me on hold to find out. He comes back 1 minute later and tells me the price was a "misprint" and should be $404.99. I told him I did not want to buy it and he kindly offered to give me a call back if the price does drop in the future. So there you go. I know I'm a new member, but you'll have to take my word for it. ;-)

Re: N810 for $289.99 and N800 for $239.99

I've been reading this thread with utter amazement, and I still don't know what/who to believe. I've seen writers literally fighting/grumbling over a $3-$5 difference in prices between N800s and N810s; others willing to pay significantly more on EBay for a used unit, rather than buying new at Buy.com or Amazon.com.
What I'd like to know is why would one spend even $50 more for a N810 new, rather than save yourself $50, for a wireless keyboard or a couple cases of beer, and get a N800 new?
From all I've read the two machines are largely identical, guts-wise The N800 has two slots, which I view as a plus. I haven't read anywhere where the N810 keyboard is really worth $179 or even $50 more. What am I missing???

I take your word for it. Ask to speak with someone on the Sales Team between 9am and 7pm Eastern M-F.

The website was supposed to reflect the price change this morning. I have been waiting to order mine all day along with a couple other people I work with. I could just call but then I may be accused of playing favourites because they get commission.

elegance and ease? a slideout keyboard is just easier than a bt keyboard in my opinion...but I also see your point...just depends on how you picture yourself using the device..

Is everyone happy with their 810's keyboard? Or do some find the keys too small and cramped around the top row? How about typing techniques... thumbs fingers?

The keyboard might not be worth $179 but it's definitely worth $50 to me. The lack of a keyboard is one of the reasons I dont use my n800 much.

Re: N810 for $289.99 and N800 for $239.99

If it's any contribution to this loopy choice-justifying discussion (which is really very helpful for those interested in buying one, as I have recently learned), I eventually decided the N810's keyboard wasn't worth it to me because I do fine with writing recognition. I have come to actually enjoy using CellWriter along with my Wacom tablet, and I understand that program could work pretty happily on Maemo. Other peoples' mileage may vary, but my writing, while messy, is quite consistent.

For that matter, one of my software development goals is to eradicate the use of keyboards wherever they are not necessary for hand held devices, in favour of either more natural input -> text conversions or skipping text-only content altogether. (Everything being text-only makes sense in some cases, but it is unnecessary for a surprising number of things).

Thus, I can do fine with neither an on screen keyboard nor a physical one!

Also, I realized size isn't an issue when I discovered they are both similar in size to my Iomega 120GB external 2.5" hard drive. (Which is tiny and pocket friendly). In fact, the N810 is identical in size, but the 800 is just a tad wider and taller by millimeters. Both are, by that compass, sufficiently tiny.

I am happy, it took a week to get used to it. You can only use thumbs on it. Keeping in mind that I haven't had much use with full qwerty keyboards ( had a Blackbery 8700 with Suretype once and an E70 with the 'gullwing ' design) I think it is very serviceable.

Agreed, the keyboard is very serviceable. It could use some tactile tweaks, but otherwise quite a nice addition to the tablet.

Guys i invented a time machine so for anyone who is feeling extra guilty , they can go back in time and not buy an n810. The price for time travel is one n810 and i can give you my address and phone number once you've made up ur mind.

- thanks for that... looks like the thread title is misleading, eh?

- but not a bad price....

- and US$239 for an n800 w/free S/H is an *outstanding* deal on a Linux-based tablet that can [currently] host 64GB of storage!

(now let's see what kind of deals 3rd-party vendors can come up with?)

The Canadian price is still $485, though. If it doesn't change I'm gonna call them later today to try to find out what's going on with that.

You would think if you are going to send out information to that many people you would make sure it is correct.

Well, 2/3 devices that were suppose to drop in price dropped to the expected price. Only N810 dropped to 389.99, but hearing it should still be less...

That's ok by me. Sure $200 off would have been better, but $100 puts it into my price range, as long as it hits Canada as well (SOON! :)).

It looks like the SCENEZINE code still works too, which puts it at $331.49. Which is pretty stinkin' good for a new n810. You can't hardly find them used for $350 these days. I've been waiting for the price of the n810s to come down. This might just be the time to buy for me.
