This allows the guy to show but doesn't suffice in my hands to make the program work.

EDIT after manually moving the pdf line in /etc/gnome/default.list to dbus-switchboard, it started working for pdf.

works now, thanks to you, debernardis
and, of course, qole

edit: right, after testing it out, gui shows, but files aren't handled any differently. i change the handler, then save from the dropdown at the top, however, results are not as expected (i set kmplayer to play all video filetypes, but media player is still the default).

Try to delete the association and redo it from scratch. I had to manually edit the mime associations file as I said.

hi i've done this ok but the app still closes before it loads anything. is there anyway to check why this could be?

I will add python-glade2 to the dependencies.

Please don't edit the files manually, we can't test the app properly that way.

I didn't have to touch the gnome file at all.
Did you set the default in the GUI? I had to switch application/pdf to dbus-switchboard in the defaults tab as well as setting up the handler and xref.

Also, remember to save your changes!

no go = it says dbus browser switchboard at top with the loading icon. after a few seconds, it closes by itself (no switchboard gui actually popped up).

The old version has an error in the postinst script. To correct, as root, do

leafpad /var/lib/dpkg/info/dbus-switchboard.postrm

and join the last line to the preceding one so that the last line of the script reads like

# cp /usr/share/applications/defaults.list~ /usr/share/applications/defaults.list

all in the same line.

Then you can issue

apt-get install --reinstall dbus-switchboard

and you're done.

EDIT it seems that the latest version has the same error. Qole, please check it :)

This time (ver 3) I had to edit /usr/share/applications/defaults.list by hand and change the association of pdf files to dbus-switchboard.
Also, in my hands the gui app doesn't delete Xrefs (even if it can create new ones).
