Can't install new SSH tools
It looks like the openssh-common package needed to install the latest openssh server and client to OS2008 is missing from the Extras repository. Anybody else had problems installing the latest OpenSSH stuff?

Yes, same here. Removed and reinstalled to work around.

Re: Can't install new SSH tools
Yeah, I had the same problem. More annoyingly, a couple of errors came up every time I used it after reinstalling, due to something in ssh_config. I wanted to just delete my old settings and start anew, but that would require being root, and I don't have any special way of being root installed, I just always ssh root@localhost. I ended up going to R&D mode so I could gainroot, removed the problematic files, rebooted into production mode, and then (cleanly) reinstalled SSH, which is now totally fine, though I had to redo all my keys. It was a stupid process to have to do, which would've been solved by capturing root locally, but whatever, it worked.
@ paulkoen: SSH server allows me to ssh to myself (ssh root@localhost) to get root without doing any of the other tricks to get root. Plus, I don't know, if I ever screwed up my xorg.conf and the display wasn't usable, I suppose I could fix it via ssh from another computer. Might come in handy sometime. |

Re: Can't install new SSH tools
Hello!I've the same problem, when using the new version,it gives me a few errors, something with lines in ssh_config...I've uninstaled a few times in red pill mode, but I cannot delete the folder /ssh located in /etc ...I was trying using emelfm2 ,but doesn't allow me...
Can somebody please tell me how can I delete /etc/ssh folder? Tnx a lot and sorry for my bad English! Best Regards |
Re: Can't install new SSH tools
I'm always unccomfortable answering these type of questions because I really don't have a full knowledge of linux and afraid my solution could destroy something. ***Please wait a bit to see if others yell at me for suggesting the following:
I noticed the same error upon upgrading ssh, which I currently only use to gain root access... ssh -l root localhost Once logged in I just used "rm /etc/ssh/ssh_config" to end annoying error message. I'm not the kind of person who'd look to see if the config file in question contains anything important, but you might want to be :) |
Re: Can't install new SSH tools
Tnx a lot ,I'll wait ,maybe someone can tell me how to remove the whole directory /ssh from /etc , and to make after that a clean install of openssh...

Re: Can't install new SSH tools
I had this same exact problem last night. IIRC all I ended up doing was firing up xterm as root and then doing an: apt-get upgrade (or) apt-get upgrade openssh-common. I think I did the latter and it successfully upgraded the server and client to the new version.
