Engadget claims that Nokia won't change the name? N810 rev2 or something? Does sound confusing for the user for this kind of major hardware change.

Re: WiMAX-Enabled Nokia N810 Internet Tablet Launching Soon at CTIA?

This doesn't make sense, they should at least add a letter or change a digit for the product if it has a hardware change. What, are they only going to sell it to sprint or certain companies? I'm betting it will be called something like the n811 or n810w or something along those lines.

Re: WiMAX-Enabled Nokia N810 Internet Tablet Launching Soon at CTIA?

I haven't posted an article about it since I haven't heard anything concrete yet from Nokia. I'll post something when I get confirmation.

If it has a phone and dual sdhc cards I would buy. I don't need WiMax because it won't be available in my area until a year from now and when I travel abroad it won't be useable. The plans are too expensive(Sprint is like Apple). I would have bought the n810 if had dual sdhc cards. N810 is a great product it just lacked the memory capacity.
Texrat anything you could shed a light on? Their will be a treat for you. :)

If the name isn't changing is it possible that the hardware is the same?

I know a software-controlled radio was discussed before...

The new, no-name-change N810 with WiMAX-- brought to you by the same people who announced the N830!

Isn't that obvious? If the upcoming tablet can do WiMax, doesn't it need a new (radio) hardware? (If someone hacks current N8x0 software to make it compatible with WiMax networks... I'll buy you a case of beer.)

Second clue: Anyone heard "RX-48" mentioned in this forum? ;) Doesn't it sound like a new hardware version? To distinguish it from current N810 it has to have new name. (But the name doesn't need to be much different... :D)

Sure the specs will change: the N8mmmmppphhh has WiMAX!

Any company that release two consumer products with ANY significant difference under the exact same name is run by idiots. Oops... I once worked for one... :o

EDIT: one qualifier-- cars (etc) don't count. I guarantee you that every time there's a model change, even if the nameplate stays the same, the top level assembly number changes. bUt for low cost consumer products that churn quickly, flame above still applies. ;)

Whatever new name is (to be) the hardware is definitely RX-48:
Pls see in changelogs:
projects/haf/trunk/osso-af-startup/services/real-af-startup
Log:
* Added RX-48-specific code. Phone pairing wizard and operator selection wizard
only run if the device is not RX-48. Use $OSSO_PRODUCT_HARDWARE.

Just some "oil into fire" :)

By hardware changes i am more interested in doubling the ram and also increasing the cpu. So does the hardware change?

Trust me, the subject was noticed on this forum weeks ago, and debated vigorously. I think most in this thread are already tired of that old topic. ;)

Will the new N8xx come out in Europe at the sametime as in USA?
The N810 came out in Europe sometime later than in USA :-(

Based on a variety of factors, incredibly unlikely.

I am a tad confused. I am fortunate enough to have two WIMAX networks available. I can detect them but I cannot log into them. I went to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hoc_..._protocol_list) and learned that there were over 70 different protocols for WiMax. If all the problem is a protocol issue, then even my n800 can get WiMax, no?

You are not alone!

For you, for any others who know they don't know (and for electrolind ;)):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WiMAX

Finish reading that, and either you'll know what it is, or you'll know better than to ask!
