yeah I do not recommend the n800, unless you like the fiddle around with it... I love it, because Unix/Linux is the environment I work w/ on daily basis. I think n800 is not for everyone...

Ipod Touch/Iphone are more mainstream, and you get what is dictated by Steve Jobs and the Apple people, so if they don't see it fit you don't get it... sure people are jailbreaking and getting things on it, but after seeing how after each firmware the phone is getting locked, there is the direction apple is going, they want to be in control... and I hate that. That was the main reason I chose n800 (because I could have jailbroken the iphone myself) because I do not care for them.

So look at yourself see what describes you and choose accordingly.

I dont use linux/unix from home or work. I have dabbled in it from time to time I opted for the N800 simply because it's not an apple product. Kidding. The real reason is because I could not justify (at the time) to spend 400 bucks on an iPhone that doesnt have a user replaceable battery. But now I cannot ever justify a purchase from Apple simply because they charged $20 for a firmware upgrade (Touch). Sure, you have to play around with the n800 to make it do the things that you want, and (GASPS) you actually learn something by doing that. My only regret, if you want to call it that, is that I use Verizon, and they arent really happy about tethering, so I just basically use my n800 in my home or at places that have free wi-fi if I want to browse the net. Otherwise, Im just busy searching the forums (within WIFI range), learning about linux, listening to music (SD card or FM RADIO), watching some videos (mplayer) or looking at photos (canola or quiver). Probably one of the best purchases I have ever made. Im into technology, but I have very limited knowledge about it. Oh and by the way...people have said to me "That is so cool, is that an iPhone --- Screen Rotation baby)

thank you mooler and houman i guess im going to get the n800 since i can get it from 160 now and i think im the same way as you mooler about being into technology but having limited knowledge about it so thanks and houman wat part of chicago do you live in

Yeah my cousin has the iphone and i did play with the touch recently at the apple store. Other than the response of the ui i did not like it much.i was really pissed that it could not stream internet radio and its bluetooth is so severely cramped!!

Neither the iPhone or N800 will meet that need. They are both short term electronic devices that will be superseeded by other things.

When buying an electronic device it is important to buy it for what it is now, rather than what it could be in the future. It may be something in the future but there is no way to guarantee it.
