Re: Igo Stowaway keyboard "connection failed..."

Thanks to everyone for their help. I think by trying to re pair it through Control Panel/ BT Keyboard at startup must have been the problem....

But I still dont see the Bluetooth Icon in the tray ????

if you cannot get them to initially pair up, it may be necessary to manually clear out the bluetooth configuration (using the `rm` command in the xterm shell, detailed in another thread on this subject), reboot the system, and start the pairing process again.

If you feel you want to do this, and cannot find the relevant thread/post regarding clearing out BT prefs and starting over, I can try to locate the exact post...

Please try and locate that post, I am in desperate state right now.

Re: Igo Stowaway keyboard "connection failed..."

okay, I found my notes.

first, you'll need to be able to access root in the xterm session. download and install "becomeroot" if you haven't already.

next: when you use the UI to clear out the bluetooth stuff (in an attempt to start over, such as you're wishing to do), it doesn't *really* clear everything out. ...and, subsequent attempts to pair the keyboard will "immediately fail, without an opportunity to key in the pairing code". So, we'll clear it manually. The /var/lib/bluetooth/<your N800's MAC address>/ directory is what we're interested in. This is the directory that needs to be totally cleaned out. Since tab-completion works, even with the pop-up keyboard (there's a tab macro on the top line), just key in:

rm -Rf /var/lib/bluetooth/00

and then hit that Tab button - the full directory name will be auto-populated. Add a final trailing slash (no spaces, just the slash /)

NOTE: YOU'RE LOGGED IN AS ROOT. BE VERY CAREFUL THAT YOU DON'T MISTYPE THIS COMMAND!

Now, hit the 'enter' button on the keyboard to remove the contents of that directory. Turn the N800 off, then boot it back up.

Your bluetooth settings will be completely cleared, and you'll be starting (truly!) fresh (with regards to bluetooth setup, anyway). Pair up the keyboard again, and remember that this pairing deal is a one time thing -- after it has paired (provided you keep the "trusted device" checkbox checked during pairing), you shouldn't have to go into this panel again, for any reason. ...at least as far as this iGo keyboard is concerned!

The above procedure is what I did to clear out my BT settings and start anew, and it worked beautifully on the first try -- I had gone through numerous "delete" and "add" sequences in the Control Panel, and each new attempt to pair would immediately fail. Hopefully, this will fix your problem as well.

Now that I have it running ( without the BT icon....whatever)
Does anyone know any shortcut key list specific to this model? I know there is a few listed under Control Panel/Bluetooth Keyboard/Shortcuts, but I was hoping on a more extensive list.

sillydad, just checking here, but when you go to control panel>bluetooth, you have checked the Visible box, yes? That's what makes the Bluetooth icon visible on the top of the screen.

Should I follow the steps right now because I'm not so sure about it regarding my previous post.

Re: Igo Stowaway keyboard "connection failed..."

Jaslar,
I have the Visible box checked and still no BT icon. However, I think when I was trying to pair up my wife's cellphone and deleted the connection, I might have messed it up.
So far my KB works, but if it gives me anymore grief, I might have to follow Briand's advice and wipe out the settings.

Re: Igo Stowaway keyboard "connection failed..."

...is it possible that you have enough applets running that your BT icon is on the "second page", and that's why you don't see it?

Re: Igo Stowaway keyboard "connection failed..."

Briand,

As far as I know, the icon's on the top right are part of the Operating System and can not be selected as an Applet.

If there is a setting I should know about.......

Btw.. there is no Bluetooth Applet that I have.
