check out Settings | Control Panel | Panels | Status Bar

You can decide, not only what shows up there, but in what (reverse, actually[right to left]) order it appears...

finally figured this out.

before you click "OK" to pair, type in the pass code and press "enter" on the bluetooth keyboard.
