Is it possible to stop Internet Tablets from connecting to your Wi-fi?

At my school, I used to bring my N810 and I would get the internet easily. Now, when I'm at school I'm connected to the network but the internet isn't on at all. It works with a laptop though.

Huh? That does not make any sense.

I think you might want to try tapping on the wifi indicator -> connectivity settings

Connect automatically: always ask

hmm well maybe a mac filter? the first parts of a mac reveal the manufacturer of the wlan chip, if I had to stop ITs from using my wlan and I were ignorant of macchanger, I would choose this way.
As I know macchanger, however, you might give it a try:
Get the MAC of some wlan card (maybe the one of your laptop) and write it down.
When you are at school, change your ITs MAC to the one your laptop has and see if it works.
Remember, however, to change it back when you are at home, as you shouldn't have two computers with the same MAC in the same (w)lan.

(Or: take your laptop's mac and change the last pair of hex digits)

Otherwise I see no way of removing ITs from a network with simple means (no vpn and so on)

Personally, I use brontide's answer "always ask". And I realized there's another way -- hit the on/off button, one of the option is "Offline Mode". When I choose that it puts a red slash through the connectivity icon. I'm betting that means it won't connect to your WLAN.

I'm not 100% sure what the question is! :-)

Masterphill, are you having trouble connecting to your school's wi-fi network?

If you want to stop your tablet connecting to any wi-fi, MP2100 is right, just press the off switch briefly and choose the "offline mode" option. That stops any kind of internet connections. When you want to connect again, press the off switch briefly and choose the "normal mode" option.

It sounds as though you need to configure a proxy server. The (I guess Windows) PCs on the network are probably set up for automatic proxy configuration. That means they will get details of the proxy server they need to use from the DHCP server, but for the tablet you'll have to configure it separately. If you can figure out the url for the WPAD file then you can enter into the tablet's network configuration.

I'm trying to connect to the school's network. Sorry, the title is misleading.

Okay! :)

As well as taking Duncan's advice, you might want to ask your school's tech support people for the settings needed to access their network. This should help a great deal in getting it working on the tablet. (I'm assuming you haven't already done that of course.)

I doubt they will want me using this to connect to the internet though.
