ok big woop so it can go on the net...
Ok ...:D The net is a key selling feature for me granted & I would not have a interest in it if it could not ... But can someone tell me just what else you can do with it or what YOU do with it other than use it to check email and go online ? ?:)

Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
I play mahjong with it. :)
Seriously, I personally like these devices for their good VoIP SIP support (don't care much about skype really, I mostly use SIP). Very important if you live abroad and want to call your family in another country. Saves money. I use SIP providers o call my family in Greece regularly. |
Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
as it stands I've got 20 movies, 35 tv shows, 400 songs on it. I've got 40 E-books on it using FBreader. I'm using Gpe for syncing my calender, to do list and contact list. I'm listening to internet radio connected to my Griffin Amplifi. I've purchased the GPS routing software so I'm using it for routing without having to carry a separate unit. I use google docs for word processing and I've been playing Quake on it, plus I've been using skype on it for cheap phone calls.

Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
Um... that is a big "woop".
There are very few places or sites I can't access with it. It finds connections and displays content pretty dang well. And the battery lasts a reasonably long time while doing it. :) |
Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
Go online? I assume you mean web surfing, as some of the "other" things I do do involve being online.
Take notes with Xournal Listen to mp3s with mpd/mmpc/mpc+powerlaunch Run Windows apps on my Windows machine via RDesktop, SSH, and sometimes VNC Dial numbers on my cellphone with phonelink/gnokii Look at maps with Maemo Mapper Playing games (mainly Tyrian and Powermanga, occasionally others, and probably soon fRaBs) Reading PDFs (course notes, ebooks, whatever) with built-in reader/evince VoIP with Skype Spreadsheets with Gnumeric Generally play around with a GNU/Linux system (not of interest to many, but it's a lot of what I do...) |
Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
I can cut my cell minutes in half by using GrandCentral and Gizmo ( or skype ). I use canola2 to watch ( and download ) youtube videos. Don't forget that you will be browsing the web long after all of your friends iphones have run out of juice.

Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
Top 10 uses.
Email using webmail and Modest Websurfing - Built in Browser IM with MSN and Googletalk 'friends' - RTCOMM update Note taking with a paired Bluetooth Keyboard Internet Radio with the built client and Streamtuner Podcasts and Youtube with Canola SipPhone via built in client I call free within US Canada because of Grandcentral and cheap overseas. E-book reader with FBreader Rhapsody player, I have a rhapsody to go mobile phone I already pay for (Nokia N75) RSS reading with the built in reader. All these functions are achieved with ZERO hacking and with single click installs directly from the device. |
Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
Personally, I think the best thing about the n8x0 series is that it's running on a real Linux system. Plenty of devices out there let you go on the internet and check your email, but if you're looking for a pocket size computer that gives you the freedom and power of an open source linux OS under the hood, the selection gets much more narrow. This allows me to, for example, install BASH and do some scripting to help me out with administrating other computers. Also, I think the open platform gives developers a lot more options on how they would like to go about building applications for the system. My porting attempts so far to the device have been a pretty good experience. Seems to me if you're not using the n8x0 for its linux features, you're missing out on a lot of the value of owning the device.
Other than geeky linux stuff and computer admin tasks, I use mine for taking notes in class, word processing (google docs), keeping up with news (google reader), playing music/video (both on the device and controlling other players remotely), playing games, reading ebooks, and much more. One of the most useful things about the device that I've found is how long the battery lasts even if it's connected to a wireless network all day. Since I have access most places I go, including all over my campus and where I work, my friends and co-workers can send a message directly to me no matter what I'm doing and I can respond in the time it takes to take it out of my pocket. |

Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
i was mainly looking for an internet capable device that had GPS or for a GPS device that had wifi :o
i use it on and off, but so far largest gain i have seen is from long distance navigation and accessing web away from home (airport/hotel etc) http://www.internettablettalk.com/wi...08_OS_Software |
Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
So how is it for looking at pics?.. I read a lot of comics but its hard to take comics to work to read and not get funny looks from people unless they are hard covers which people just think you are reading a normal book :D

Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
Can it do video nicely?
|
Re: ok big woop so it can go on the net...
I find the native Sketch app pretty handy - just for making notes without thinking (keyboards are fine, but they need thought).
