There is a thread which deals with this exact problem. Search for it.
I think the title is need some serious help... or something like that. |
Re: Downloading Skype failed?
Rezigrene, can you say exactly what goes wrong when you try to install it?
The only suggestion I could make is updating the firmware on your tablet, it solved the problems I had with getting Skype on my N810. If you need help with that try this tutorial: http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/200...-firmware.html |
Re: Downloading Skype failed?
It simply says ''Failed to install Skype.'' It downloads it and goes to install, then stops. I'm using the latest firmware, at least I think.

Re: Downloading Skype failed?
I just installed Skype on my N800 tablet (after reflash of OS...) from repository without problems couple hours ago. I did not have any problems.
Make sure you do have Maemo Extras repository enabled. |
Re: Downloading Skype failed?
The exact error is
Unable to install. Software contains updates to packages installed from a different source and is likely to harm the system. Contact the software author. I have no idea what to do, I have all the repos from gronmayer installed and enabled. |
Re: Downloading Skype failed?
Brand new n810, delivered today:
Click the Skype button - "Install Skype?" - Click "Okay" - Application Manager loads - Downloading..... - "Install application? skype 1.7.62.51.1 4.6 MB" (Click OK) - "Unable to Install. Software contains updates installed from a different source and is likely to harm the system. Contact software author." (Click OK) - Dumped back to Application manager screen I'm also having trouble with updates for map. |

That's with the instructions on the Skype page. |
Re: Downloading Skype failed?
I did manage to get it installed.
I logged into the tablet with ssh (OpenSSH) (as root) and used apt-get install skype to do the install. I had to accept the license agreement to install on the n810's screen -- which confused me because it was blanked at the time, and I didn't know it was setting there waiting for a confirmation for 5+ minutes. Anyway, it is installable. You just have to 'cheat' a little to get it to go. I should be smoother than that. Most users won't keep trying -- much less use the terminal and know the apt-get command line interface. |
Re: Downloading Skype failed?
What is the exact command? Because I don't want to mess up my $810
Will it work for x term by using sudo gainroot ? |
