Looks like MediaFire's having some issues right now with these files.

Anyone have a mirror?

control with "mouse" (touch) :D but not enough good... so i think control is difficult, but playable :)

i havent original game files, so i tested only with the included data files...

Looks like these links are dead (file not found) but the original post's download locations should be back up in another hour or two after that site's scheduled maintenance is complete.

Re: Command and Conquer - Red Alert - 1

not optified, but this step is symlink freera files to /home/freera :) so optified :D
7) Symlink /home/freera to /usr/share/games/freera
ln -s /home/freera /usr/share/games/freera

ok, i just noticed step 4 was install to root and was wondering if it ate up the space too much.

Got mine to work! Loved this game. However, it's so hard to control especially moving around the map. O well hopefully keyboard controls could be implemented to move around the map for easier navigation.

Well, lets hope someone will pick this project up and will make it optified and more stable for the N900 :D

I've never played C&C Red Alert before, but what part is hard to control on the N900?

At least on my US Keyboard configuration, the arrow keys move around the map and the touch screen allows mouse input. The game options screen button is very hard to hit because it's so small, but that's not impossible.

I have noticed that the in-game options dialog that would lead you to save your game does not respond. Strange...

The only thing I think you could be missing from playing it on the PC would be right clicking with the mouse, but I don't even know if the game has right click options.

Re: Command and Conquer - Red Alert - 1

Hacking older Maemo diablo games to work on n900 is not the way to go. It will probably just make proper ports more unlikely since the momentum is gone and people will mistakenly associate the proper version with these hacks.

Anyways, how well does it work? I made an optified version of openredalert with playability fixes, but it's way too unstable for a release. It randomly fails to start and I've managed to load a campaign mission only once, but skirmish seems solid if nobody uses tesla coils. Openredalert is a fork of freera/freecnc so I'm not too positive about freera working that much better.

if you launch the game from the terminal as shown in the tutorial on page 12 you will have keyboard navigation for the map

Everything goes wrong after:

9) Gain Permissions:
chmod +x /home/freera/freera

10) Start game
/home/freera/freera -w 800 -h 480 -fullscreen

First of all, it says /home/freera/freera doesent exit. Can somebody help?

Re: Command and Conquer - Red Alert - 1

Repeat the instructions, and more carefully.

Either it failed here:
5) It will come up and say that it's installed successfully. If you get an error or it says failed, check your tablet for enough free space on root (df command) (needs a few MBs)

or you failed here:
6) make freera directory in /home/
mkdir /home/freera

steady 2010-01-09 11:07

Re: Command and Conquer - Red Alert - 1

install end always with "mkdir: cannot create directory /usr/share/games file exits" and "stay rootsh"?

I did

freera-bin-0.1-2_armel.deb on N900 with Mass Storage Mode

X-terminal

sudo gainroot

dpkg -i freera-bin-0.1-2_armel.deb no such file or directory found? errors!

What is going on?

Damn I have a german keyboard layout and I canīt move around the map. Only left and right.
How can I remap the keys, so I can move up and down?

I donīt have the ra3_1.12.game file in that freera-data.tgz. There is only the data directory. But the game works without it, too. ;)

Why the game doesnīt start by the icon in the program folder?

To where did you copy the file? If to the main directory you need to type cd MyDocs, then dpkg.. or you can use the redpill(wiki it) to install the deb file. Also you have to disconnect the device from the USB to do this.

You can drag the mouse to the side to move the map around. Not to just click on the side, you actually have to drag the cursor to the side.

Game works on N900, except it makes the phone reboot from time to time...

This is your video on YouTube? This is amazing!
You continue to work on this, or did it just for the test?

Hi,

I get a "no such file or directory" when trying to set the +x.

When I look into the freera, there's just the data directory.

What did I wrong?

Thanks,
Bye
MPW

/edit: It seems that the installation fails. It end's with Stay in rootfs. There's no "installation successfull" as told in the instructions.

But why? I did everything just like in the instructions

/edit: I got 25 Mbs left, isn't that enough?

hi guys, what file do i edit to change the control set up cheers snake

Re: [OS2008] Command and Conquer - Red Alert - 1

Got the same problem and can't figure it out. The installation doesn't say its succesfull.

Code:

/var/lib/dpkg/info/freera-bin.postinst: line 4: maemo-select-menu-location: not found

/home/user/.osso/current-gtk-key-theme:1: Unable to find include file: "keybindings.rc"

mkdir: cannot create directory '/usr/share/games': File exists
Stay in rootfs

/home/user #

The last error (mkdir) shouldnt be the problem (i guess) because if it exists it shouldnt make a new folder. But I still followed the next steps and the following problem is when trying to execute it says:

Code:

/bin/sh: /home/freera/freera: Permission denied
despite the fact i tried everything with chmod and all seems right

Re: [OS2008] Command and Conquer - Red Alert - 1

Make sure that you set all your permissions right, and check if the symlinks all work right. I used Midnight Commander to check that out.
But be carefull your root doesn't get full. I moved the files to MyDocs and changed the symlinks.
