how to enter R&D mode on 810?
 

Looks like I can do this only using flasher utility. But I cannot find it for 810 - just only for 770 and 800. Will OS2007 flasher properly work in OS2008?

Or may be there is any other way to enter R&D mode on 810... I need become root.

The "flasher-3.0" (the standard & latest) program works on N800 & N810.

this executes script:

exec sudo gainroot --use-su

but actually does while sudo:

trap exit SIGHUP SIGINT SIGTERM
PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin
exec su -

but this does NOT make me root - it causes an error message instead

I just re-cloned my build to my 1.5 gig SD partition and things have been very squirrelly since. I added sudoer package which in the past also worked with "sudo gainroot". I've used it without issue since the first Diablo release but since the initfs and kernel updates; nothing but grief.

No "sudo gainroot" returns "need to be in RD mode to become root". Not a problem, I'll just pop the device back into RD mode like it should have been already:

sudo flasher-3.0 --enable-rd-mode
./flasher-3.0: line 1: syntax error: "(" unexpected

sudo flasher-3.0-static --enable-rd-mode
./flasher-3.0-static: line 1: syntax error: "(" unexpected

I downloaded both binaries fresh from the Nokia dev site. Any ideas or recommendations on other ways to enable RD?

This is really breaking my mind. With the exception of two package updates that had to be forced in through apt-get, every update since 2007 on the n800 has gone flawlessly including the jump from n800/2008 to n810/2008 and first generation Diablo. Suddenly everything is blowing up on me with Diablo generation two.

For now, I'm using both sudoer and becomeroot packages though I'd much rather have only one package to do the job.

My frustration is with my device and not being able to figure out what I'm tripping over with this last system update. My thanks to the devs and anyone else that can spot what I'm missing.

You don't understand how either package works. rootsh and sudser accomplish two different tasks. Install both, move on (and stop trying to break your device with the flasher you don't understand :)).

Cheers, that's the current solution I'm working with now; both packages installed side by side. Off hand, where might I read more to understand how the flasher and both packages work? I'd prefer to only have to ask the questions which don't require a backhanded, though correct, response. :)

(I do have to admit though that my first question posted to the forums was truly noobish.. too many years with menu's that included sorting functions so I didn't think to simply drag entries into order. :o hoops.. it's out there for posterity now though.)
