Backup not restoring after reformat
Maybe it is, and I'm just not seeing it. Because Internet Tablet School said I might have a bug in the internal memory card, I decided to reformat the card. I created a backup from the internal to the removable. So, I go to removable, select Backup, go to "Tools" select backup/restore. A new page opens with Backup highlighted in blue. I hit the restore button on bottom, select (check mark) all applications and hit "OK". "Restore Backup?" "device will restart" appears...i hit okay. Goes through the motions, the NIT restarts...once restarted a "Restoring complete, 28 mb restored" window pops up. I hit "OK". Then "Application Manger require to re-install applications. Start Application manager now?" window pops up. I hit "OK" The the Application manger window pops up with 3 options "show installed applications" "Browse Installable applications" "Check for updates" I hit the "show installed applications" and 4 things come up. libuiw, map, osso-xterm, skype.
My question is this, are these things re-installed, and if so, why are they still listed as "backup" under File Manger? Thank you all so much for all the help. |
Re: Backup not restoring after reformat
Just out of question, is your tablet in offline mode? It isn't reinstalling anything. I had to take my tablet out of offline mode before my apps would reinstall.

Re: Backup not restoring after reformat
One last thing, when I go to backups under File manager on the Internal memory and select them, the window on right opens up and lists numerous things in zip form ie applications.zip, backup.metad...., bookmarks.zip, contacts.zip

Re: Backup not restoring after reformat
You can tell if it's on offline mode if you have a red line through the connection icon.
Press the power button and if it says normal mode, choose it :) (if it says offline mode, you are in normal mode already and that isn't the problem then) |

Any suggestions? Did you see where I said earlier about the .zip options? |
Re: Backup not restoring after reformat
Do I need to have an internet connection to restore this stuff?
|
Re: Backup not restoring after reformat
Oh. Yes, you do need to have a working internet connection.

Re: Backup not restoring after reformat
So, I need to get an active wifi connection before this will work? Or, can I hook into my PC via USB? Either case. So, I'll go over to my friends house, get an internet connection and then what? Thank you so much for your help!!!

A USB connection won't do it, it needs to be wifi (or another sort of connection that gets you onto the internet :P) If you connect to the wifi, just set it to restore the application list and try again :) Np :), good luck :) |

Exactly how did you create the backup? From the user guide, pg 17 Note that the following information, for example, is not backed up: • contents of the non-removable internal memory card on Nokia N810 Internet Tablet • theme settings, when you restore backups from previous product versions • Bluetooth connectivity settings • browser settings • installed applications Quote:

Also note, if the IT cannot find the application in the repo, it will not be able to automatically install it. |
Re: Backup not restoring after reformat
When I go to Backup under internal memory card, a list of .zip files opens on right. "applications.zip, backup.metad..., bookmarks.zip, contacts.zip, documents.zip, emails.zip, media.zip, settings.zip" I haven't put anything on here thats important. can i just go ahead and delete this stuff? thanks!!

shows the way I did it - Basically copy everything off the internal 2GB memory card, do a "Nokia file Manager backup" and then a File manager format. If you had other data etc. on the internal 2Gb card you probably wiped it. :( I thought most apps got installed on the root FS. |
