Re: HOW TO: Simplest and Complete Cloning of OS to MMC; Dual-Booting
You can't mess your system up with that one; if you're not root, it fails, and if you are root, it works.
The ask:immc2, of course, selects that it will prompt with the menu, and that it will default to immc2; even if, for example, you're confused and it's really the external card, it'll still ask, and you can just go to the right one in the menu. Even if you completely trash the ask, too, it'll still let you hold the menu key down, and you can get back in and try again. Don't worry. :D So start xterm, sudo gainroot, chroot /mnt/initfs cal-tool -R ask:immc2, done. |
Re: HOW TO: Simplest and Complete Cloning of OS to MMC; Dual-Booting
Hi, is to normal to get this message after I have cloned my OS to internal mmc in my N810 which connecting to computer via USB. Internal Memory card in use. If its so then, is it that now i can only have removable card accessible via my computer. Also how can I empty some space in my phone memory(flash memory) which is now just 12 MB free. Also, if I ever have to reflash my OS how would I do it so that only my OS gets flashed and my saved application aren't harmed. Thanks

Re: HOW TO: Simplest and Complete Cloning of OS to MMC; Dual-Booting
I finally was able to figure out how to clone my OS.
It does seem to boot faster as well as bring up apps faster. I have another question though. Is there any way to improve the web browser experience when bringing up web pages. It still seems as slow or slower than booting normally (as opposed to booting from the cloned OS) when bringing up web pages. I have tried different browser settings as well as Auto. I also have the virtual memory extended to 128K in control panel. Would a swap file on the memory card fix this problem or does the browser still kinda suck (although browsing in Diablo is a little better than Chinook as far as crashing and slowness goes). How do I create a swap file? I tried following the instructions I searched for in the forum. I think I did it right but how can I be sure I did? Is there any way to check if I did it right? Or, is there a way to increase the virtual memory more than 128K? Will this fix the browsing experience or is that something that still has to be figured out in a future update of the browser? EDIT: I found out from another website how to determine the swap file size. ~# free gave me the following: total used free shared buffers mem: 126796 124656 2140 0 1572 swap: 423684 0 423684 total: 550480 124656 425824 So I guess its working but browsing still seems slow Any suggestions to help that? |
