nokia tablet, do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

my question is, do you use a bluetooth keyboard? what type, and how much did it cost you? is there any other alternative to bluetooth keyboards? can you for example have an adaptor and conect a normal keyboard? but woudl you need a driver software?

where can you find a cheapest deal for a bluetooth keyboard in UK or in USA is shipping is possible?
THANKS!

Re: nokia tablet, do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

I use a BT keyboard when I'm writing long emails. iGo Stowaway Sierra (5-row, folds in three). They don't make them anymore (see earlier thread). Not sure what I paid, they weren't that cheap. The Sierra Ultraslim (4-row, folds in two), which they also stopped making, was sold very cheap when the stores were emptied.

There are a few other BT keyboards on the market still, but the choice has been severely limited now that the ThinkOutside keyboards are gone (as they were called before *$@ iGo bought them).

There are two main types of BT keyboards: HID profile, and serial profile. HID works out of the box, the serial profile needs an extra driver, but that works too.

I have a BT keyboard, one of the Dell-branded Stowaways, but I have to admit that I rarely -- if ever -- use it. I have yet to find a text processing program for the N800 that I feel comfortable with.

Re: nokia tablet, do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

I use an addesso flexible keyboard when I do posts to one of my blogs and dont feel like opening the laptop (not often). One of the ongoing issues with that is that the screen dims even while you are typing (N800/ITOS2008) so you have to tap the screen to get it to light back up. Highly annoying. I cannot understand how, if the tablet is receiving input should it dim the screen.

But it was £17.99 from play.com

iGo BT Stowaway. Great tool, as long as you install the OS2008 patch to prevent the key bounce. Use it for those lengthy emails, notes, or forum entries. Also use it as a keyboard for SSH sessions back to my OpenVMS server at home.

Picked it up for $38(US) on eBay, new.

http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4...d/Product.html
Due in 25/4/8. mymemory are selling them at 26.99 plus delivery but they have twice reduced them to 17.99 in the past 3 months
http://mymemory.co.uk/Bluetooth-Acce...tooth-Keyboard
Thats where i got mine from. I haven't used it much yet but will if I am away for a period of time also works very well with my symbian phone. Can also be used with the PS3 apparently but I can't confirm that.

I've never ever sold any of my computer gadgets. The ones I don't use are on display in a cabinet.

Yes, I'm weird. Ask anyone on this forum...

Re: nokia tablet, do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

I use the apple bluetooth wireless keyboard. It is a bit spendy ($79.00 US), but I really like it a lot. I use it with the Nokia everyday for email, instant message and google docs. I also use it with my MacMini. It is sturdy, portable, simple, travels well and it looks terrific.

There were a couple of minor tricks to get it set up, but I had it working in 5 minutes.

I have an iGo Stowaway bt keyboard. I don't like it. I like the look of the Apple A1255 mentioned above. As it is, I rarely go to the trouble of opening the keyboard. The Stowaway cost me $30 from Amazon, an offer that I think is no longer available.

I have an igo stowaway bt ultra-slim keyboard, I bought it for 40$ from ebay with free priority shipping. I rarely use it, the most typing I ever do is here in the forums.

Igo stowaway too (BT). Set it up and it now resides in my briefcase, unused (should probably pull the batteries). Nothing of interest to me on the n800 that needs it.

I have the latest Apple Bluetooth keyboard. I use it for homework, taking notes, and chatting with friends when I'm bored in class. I use it pretty much everyday and love it (wish it could fold into my pocket but whatev).

This is with a 810 btw. I still use the slideout keyboard whenever I'm on the go, sitting in a bus, eating lunch, etc.

Re: nokia tablet, do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

I use the iGo Stowaway Ultra-Slim BT Keyboard with my N800. I mostly using it for long emails when I'm on the road and entering data into gnumeric. It's a bit of a pain to carry around the KB for day to day use (it's larger than the N800), but for road trips where I know I won't have a laptop/desktop around, it's indispensable.

Also, it's very handy when working in Xterm and the ocassional abiword/note document.

I have an iGo Stowaway bt keyboard, while I do not used it much except when I don't have a laptop/desktop around. It also works very well with my symbian phone which I use it more for. BTW, I use SSH with Winscp & Putty on my desktop/laptop so I can cut and paste from documents...even this forum...which is easier then typing IMHO even on the N810 with or without the BT keyboard.

Damn that sucks. I haven't used it, though there was a blog about it working with the n810 (had to remap some buttons on there since those functions didn't exist on the n810) but it worked otherwise.

Re: nokia tablet, do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

another iGo Stowaway for something around $35 from Amazon. Not over joyed with the layout as I should have spent a bit more for the 5-row I think. But I am thrilled with the key travel. I type ALOT and keyboard feel is one of the few things I am fussy about. And the iGo 4-row has the feel I like. I still might find a new 5-row on eBay just to see which I prefer.

Right now though I have a problem with the keyboard no longer auto-paring with my N800. But there is a thread around here somewhere for when I have time to fix that snafu.

bhang: DUDE...that completely sux!! Do we need to have a get bhang a new keyboard drive? hehehehe, hey laugh about it or the worry will make ya crazy, right?

I looked at that new Logitech keyboard and it seems not much bigger then the tablet's thumb keyboard as well as the N810's slide out. So I am not sure how much of an improvement it would be as a true keyboard for typing. But it is kinda slick looking though not intended for lots of typing at just 5" or 6" in size. Watch the video and you can see the size in relation to the person's hands...teeny.

The Targus silicone flexible USB keyboard is a good match to my n800

as is this one (only 8 inches long) http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=190214052071 (paid 20$ shipping included from HonKong)

then I just ordered from ebay a new in box USB thumb keyboard originaly made in 2005 for the Sony Playstation 2; paid peanuts on ebay (15$)

from another user :

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...1&d=1203024429

the USB keyboard is realy making my n800 move to the micro-laptop niche when running PenguinBait's KDE

Re: nokia tablet, do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

I have an igo - 4 rows, folds in half. Use it alot. Take notes in Notes and Vim. Xterm stuff. The '/' key is in an odd place. I'm constantly hitting up arrow when i want one. But i touch type numbers now (blue shift top row) and most symbols (green shift). Full ASCII, but wish it had 'F' function keys.

Also log into my n800 via WiFi from my Linux desktop. Real keyboards are better. It'd be nice if that could be done, say from a WiFi laptop without a router. Peer to peer. Then, maybe an eepc could be used as a portable keyboard sometimes.

My friend just gave me his iGo (he doesn't use his tablet as much anymore since he uses a laptop in class. Before he'd use his n800 + iGo.

So I use it now :).

I got one and lotsa stuff does work so far only the media buttons look like a complete no go, unless some dedicated coder goes at that, but I'm working the kinks out and it seems to be the greatest keyboard for the n800, the only potential problem I can see is no f-keys

You don't need drivers.

Re: nokia tablet, do you use a bluetooth keyboard?

These are my quick instructions for the iGo stowaway BT keyboard. (A compilation of someone else's and my edits). Use the second set of instructions first time.

Connect igo keyboard to N810
_____________________________

1. Open Control Panel on the N810

2. (Optional I think) Double click 'Bluetooth keyboard', select 'Generic 105-key PC' and OK

3. Back in Control Panel double click 'Bluetooth' under connectivity

4. Make sure 'Bluetooth on' and 'Visible' are checked

5. Click on Button 'Devices'

6. On the Igo keyboard hold down the left CNTRL KEY, the BLUE fn key and the GREEN fn key at the same time. (A GREEN LED above the T key will begin to flash).

7. Select the 'Think Outside Keyboard'

8. Select 'Edit'

9. Select 'Connect'

If it will not connect you need to reinitiate the pairing as follows:

1. Select the 'Think Outside Keyboard' and 'Delete' under Bluetooth devices. Confirm with 'OK'

2. On the Igo keyboard hold down the left CNTRL KEY, the BLUE fn key and the GREEN fn key

3. Select 'New' and the N810 will find the Think Outside Keyboard

4. Select 'OK' and note the four digit PASSCODE number. (Set as trusted should be checked)

5.Select 'OK'and immediately enter the PASSCODE number on the keyboard (hold BLUE Fn, enter number and press Enter)

The Keyboard will then be paired. Close Control panel.

I have the 4 row Igo Stowawy.. had to pop the the pda holder off but it works like a charm. I mainly use it for e-mail although I will be attending a conference in Portland this summer and I am hoping to use it along with my n800 as a laptop replacement. Can anyone recommend a decent program for basic text input and no I don't want to learn e-macs :)

MaemoPad works great for me. It's just a simple text editor, but it's good enough.
