New N800 with 'Power On' issue...
I got my new N800, put the battery in, put the memory card in, plugged it up, let it charge for a little while. Being the impatient person I am, I start it up before it says it's fully charged, play around with it, turn it off to let it recharge faster (mistake #1). Then it came on again, then turned it off (I don't know why I kept turning it off), after that I had problems, I got it to come on again, then I turned it off I think, then charged it (said it was charging), then unplugged charger, and it has never came on since. Even when the charger is plugged in, it doesn't say "charging" or anything. I tried putting it in the fridge for about 15 minutes, taking the battery out and in a lot, plugging it up for a little to let it charge (if it is charging anymore), etc.
What do I do to get this thing on? How would I upgrade to the latest version of OS2008, the 51.3? (I have OS2007 now, it sucks) If my device can't come on, then how can the computer recognize it so I can update it? Help. Thanks. |
Re: New N800 with 'Power On' issue...
Wow man, our units are practically identical. Where did you order from, and when did you receive it?
I got mine today from Dell. I put the battery and the supplied SD card in, turned it on, set the time, and checked out how Wikipedia looks on it. After that, I decided just to go and update the OS. At this point, I turned it off. I have tried leaving the battery out, leaving the unit plugged in, and powering it on several times to no avail. It is currently in the fridge. No 'charging' screen comes up if I leave it plugged in, either. Please if anyone can give some help, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
Re: New N800 with 'Power On' issue...

Then I did same thing took battery out put it in freezzer in a bag. After while took it out put it in the unit plug in the charger no led screen now gets mad or upset at it. Then Gave my up and return it back now I get my new one this week. This is going to be my 2nd unit. |
Re: New N800 with 'Power On' issue...
I got mine up by letting it chill for a good 25-30 minutes...will report after I flash with OS2008.
edit: Successfully flashed to OS2008 - device functions perfectly so far. I just turned it off and then on, it seems great. Do not give up guys. Utilise this life-saving post: Quote:

Re: New N800 with 'Power On' issue...
Well I messed with it today, and nothing, I took it to work with me, and plugged it up, and then my friend at work was holding it and pulled the stylus out and it turned on, so I hugged him.
Now it is on, and I charged it, and I dare not turn it off until I know for sure it can come on when I hold the Swap key and Power key down to get the USB logo in the top right when I use the Update Wizard to get the latest version of OS2008 (that is supposed to fix this problem). How can I get it so I know for sure it can come on again in the USB mode to update it, or can I update it now while it's on normally? What is all that xterm and becomeroot stuff? P.S. I got mine from Dell too. |
Re: New N800 with 'Power On' issue...
Just take my word for it and follow the instructions...in the end, you will be relieved and happy that you did.
xterm is just so you can get root access. You see, you are not turning it off, you are just rebooting it. |

Ah, I see that the links did not make it. Allow me to link you to the original thread:

Re: New N800 with 'Power On' issue...
So from my Tablet I click the first two 'HERE' links (from my tablet's browser) and it will install these two things.
Then I follow the instructions and at step 3 of the third part, I start the official Nokia Internet Tablet Update Wizard? Then after thats done I have the latest OS2008 firmware (the 51-3 one that solves the Power On problem?) So bassicaly the xterm and what not is to reboot the device so that it DOES come on 100%, and not take a chance on turning it off and then hoping it comes on so I can update it? Am I even close? I should follow all the instructions listed from within my tablet, and then plug it up and at the end start the update wizard? After that I am done? |

Just be sure to follow the instructions exactly as entered, they're constructed specifically to avoid the power-on issue so reflashing will be easy and guess-work free, but deviation from them can drop you back to square one. ;) |
Re: New N800 with 'Power On' issue...
Thank you so much, that solved all of my problems (I think, I haven't turn it off to find out, I will just leave it on, saves battery to idle it). I now have the latest 51-3 OS2008 and I love it!
