4. maemo.org: what next?
See 4. MAEMO.ORG: WHAT NEXT? at http://maemo.org/community/wiki/linuxtag2008/
We are looking for the last invited speaker to Linuxtag, someone to provide a view on the future of the maemo community (as a whole, not just the maemo.org website). Invited means that Nokia covers travel, accommodation and registration to the event. Speaker means 5-10 minuts of presentation in a shared session with other speakers and lots of questions and comments coming from the rest of participants. Proposal: let's invite an ITT ambassador. There would be a discussion in this thread and someone would summarize it in Berlin. This "someone" would be selected here as well, by you. Some conditions/recommendations: - Due to budget restrictions needs to be based in Europe. - Popular contributor to ITT. - Open source enthusiast. We need the name asap! It is up to you how you choose it. He or she needs to confirm here, otherwise we keep having recommendations on people that can't attend. Then you have several weeks to discuss, until end of May. Thank you - we hope you like the proposal. |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
I vote GeneralAntilles. He seems to know what he's talking about (or is he already going?).

Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
I would say Milhouse or Jaffa, except apparently their removal from the other sections means they could not confirm according to one comment. I was really hoping for fanoush but he seems to be a hard sell (:p). There are plenty of people not based in Europe I could propose but that's already out. So... right now I'm stuck. But not giving up. I will continue thinking on this...
Hey, what about Karel? :D |

Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
Family commitments on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday; unfortunately.
Mrs. Jaffa looked for trains, planes and automobiles but the logistics just wouldn't fit. I've got some thoughts on the topic (which I'd've tried to formalise into a few slides/discussion) which I'll try and get a coherent email or blog post about. Hopefully, maemo, LinuxTag and me will be around next year :-) |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
Too bad. Sounds like a cool opportunity... so long as you don't have a fear of public speaking. ;)

I will start first, I wish our ambassador is able to propel the iTT into becoming an official function for either the maemo or the Nokia tablet, i.e, we will be able to demand/request/seek explanation/complaints/suggestions from Nokia/maemo. The current situation is like ma$terbation, we can scream our guts out, the next tablet is still not going the way this community thinks it should be, and the maemo.org intermittent 'down' etc. bun |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
I nominate the bunster. :D

Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
fanoush is based in Europe (Prague, I think) and seems to know one hell of a lot.

I thinks it great that we are nominating an ambassador to Linuxtag. I nominate The General even though he said he isnt going.

Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
@Fanoush
Yeah if they just had the video voip working with the n8XX you could give the presentation via n8XX (which IMHO would be cool as heck) ;) I hope of course that ya'll take this as playfully as it was meant. |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
How about speculatrix? He can bring a wealth of Zaurus based experience to the event.
The fact that my Zaurus gets used more than my N800 is testimony to the paucity of useful NIT software so a practical example of the platform’s potential might provide positive input for the Maemo developers. Something has to be done in this regard, that’s for sure. |

Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
Why not get a list of people who can and want to go and then vote for them?
It would be easier than just picking people at random |

Hey... there's a topic for a maemo speaker... :D |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
heheh - need a new thread for 'topics for speaker'!
So you don't share the perspective that there are applications that people want that don't exist? I had a look at that zarus thread, and some of those programs are fairly trivial to impliment. My 810 turned up today, so I guess I better get off my backside and put some effort into writing something instead of just whinging! |

Dont know about apps, but certainly "there are more TV stations for the tablets than *I* will ever watch" Sorry, cant help to throw in a quip about your comments, albeit, a cheap one :) bun |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
At the end I went the non-democratic way and decided to invite Sebastian Mancke, of JaLiMo fame. He is a professional developer and he is jumping also on OpenMoko and other Linux based platforms. It will be interesting to know how maemo looks in hi potential future. He is involved in the LinuxTag organization and he plans to be there. ;)

Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
Between being invited and deciding that, on balance, I couldn't go; I started thinking about what I'd talk about.
Some of those thoughts are now here: http://www.maemopeople.org/index.php..._org_what_next Comments, as ever, welcome. |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
Maemo.org Brainstorm
News here: http://maemo.org/news/announcements/...rainstorm.html Should we organize first before the attack? :) |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
yes, we should.
But it's a wiki, it can be modified over time.. but having a common starting point will help |
Re: 4. maemo.org: what next?
Maybe we should start another thread just about that, it's not very clear right now.
